Does a PSA qualifier sell for less than a card graded lower without a qualifer?

If your having a card graded with a mark on the back, do you request a qualifier or not?

Thanks !

I don't think you can request NQ if a card has a mark but I could be mistaken.

I submitted a card with ink on back and asked for qualifier, card graded with no qualifier. Should I resubmit card to get higher grade with qualifier or leave it as is ?

    Thanks !

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If this is for your PC, then it really is just personal preference. If you are trying to sell it, then it could go either way. Generally a Q grade knocks 2 grades off, so a 7 (ST) would be given the same value as a 5. But I have seen some stunning 9 (MK) cards where the marks are on the back, but the front looks impeccable. For me, I'd rather have the 9 (MK) than the 7.

    Again, all about personal preference.

    Thanks, trying to sell card.

Would like to hear if you prefer card with qualifier and higher grade or no qualifier and lower grade.

    Thanks again

It would be infinitely more helpful if you'd identify or even post a scan of the card you are discussing. To generalize about qualifiers and grade vs. grade will keep this thread active for about another 2 or 3 vague questions. There are reasons why preferences can swing both ways.

Cards that have the kind of mark that PSA identifies as an MK cannot have the grade lowered to a straight grade taking the mark into consideration. The MK stays with the card regardless of the grade. If you sent in a card with what PSA identifies as an MK, and it came back in a straight grade, then the MK was missed by PSA when grading. If it wasn't the kind of mark that PSA identifies as an MK then it's looked at like any other defect that can affect the condition of the card. Post a picture of what you're calling an MK.

As been said previously, I prefer the qualifier. It gives more information. It says that the card is a 9, but there is also something else wrong that deters from a straight 9. Especially if the issue is on the back, using a qualifier says the front is a 9, but there is something wrong with the back.
