I liked the original "black slab" NGC holders. I liked them for one very good reason -- the tag with the grade was on the BACK.
So... you actually had to look at the coin to see if you liked it or not.
Then, if you were curious, you could turn it over and see what NGC graded it.
Sadly, that feature is what doomed it to a 1 month life.
Now everybody reads the label first and -- maybe -- they will actually look at the coin too after that.
