Mid-1800s Zacatecas Mexico 8 Reale...enigma

WeissWeiss Posts: 9,941 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is what looks to be a mid-19th century Zacatecas Mexico 8 reale, very well worn. Or likely a contemporary counterfeit of one.
It has the right "ring", when suspended and gently struck. It is non-magnetic, and weighs within a gram or so of an authentic 8 reale. And it seems to have the correct diameter.

But it has the look of a silver-washed piece, though that could also just be a very uneven wear pattern and/or tone from 100+ years of circulation.

It also has what appears to be a small bore hole in the rim at about 11:00 off the eagle's shoulder.

Asking $35 shipped paypal but will consider offers and/or trades (peace dollar shown for scale and is not included).

NOW JUST $29 shipped paypal or trade!
