Today a friend asked me exactly that question: are these real or fakes?
My friend purchased them out of an estate. They were sort of stuck on top of each other ( the darker marks around the rims) facing obv-rev.
I do not know and I hope some of you do know and share their knowledge.
thank you

The first step should be to weigh them. Krause says 26.7g.
sorry I do not have Krause. BUT did some checking around google.
And: one weighs 23.7 grams
the other is 23.3 grams.
that is what stumbles me, as it should be 26+ grams
(my scale is ok. I tested it on an Ounce of silver round)
My initial first glance reaction is fake. The hair seems too detailed, the hairline seems too defined, the mouth looks strange, the boat has some little details that seem weird. All in all, it looks like too many red flags for me. I am no expert though.

They look counterfeit... Sorry

Thanks guys, NO need to be sorry. That same thought crossed my mind when I took the pictures.
Maybe someone knows for sure. There might be a other issue with a lower weight? who knows?
I also think that these are 2 different obv dies which raises more questions.
You mean apart from the different years?
Not authentic. 1933&34. beware weighing as a determination they even make pure silver fakes. the over details in the hair mustache and collar are a good indication they are not real. also the sails are off slightly.
fake for sure.
you need to be very careful on buying raw Chinese coins.
The weight is too far off for them to be real.
One interesting point is that some of the real ones were struck at the three United States mints.
