A while back I visited Machu Picchu in Peru and while I saw many Japanese tourists, the local Peruvians told me that lots of Chinese people live in Peru. I was reminded of this when I recently ran across the following medal online. Does anyone have any background on this?

Recuerdo de la colonia China conmemorando el primer centenario del Peru. 28 del Julio de 1921

Google Translate does a commendable job:

Remembrance of the Chinese colony commemorating the first centenary of Peru. July 28, 1921

    Great looking mint state medal.
The obverse design is really lovely.

    That's pretty cool.

We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.
