Attractive coin. In looking at the design, one cannot help but ask...Did this coin influence Charles Barber? The answer seems obvious.

Pretty coin. 1871 is a 100 year birth coin for me, so maybe one day. I see a lot of these 1871's. Was there a hoard of this particular date/denomination?

I believe so. I have always felt several French coins from the turn of the century influenced our coins. Several are very similar to Walking Liberty Half's also.

I believe U.S. coins were heavily influenced by the French issues as well. In my eye, the similarities between the walking halves and the Oscar Roty Francs are even more striking than those between the barber coinage and these laureate head francs.
