VAM question - Is this coin a 1878 8TF 14.18 (update the answer is yes, AU 53)
*** edit on 03/29/2017
I sent this coin in on an economy submission back in January to see if It would straight grade.
It came back AU 53.
So I resent it as part of a recent submission to get the variety designated and a Trueview.
So now it is number 4 in the condition census for this variety Vam 14.18 Broken 7 (The higher graded coins are a 64 DMPL, 58, 55).

Here is the color corrected photo. It's not at yellow as the original pic.

First off sorry about the crappy photos. It's the best I can do with my Iphone.
I was wondering if this is a 1878 8TF Vam 14.18.
I tried to figure it out by using VAMworld.
I think it has a1c reverse, so I perused this link and tried to figure what I actually have.

The coin is AU with prooflike fields, so the contact marks make it look pretty scruffy.
There is a die crack from the bottom of the 7 to the rim.

A late die state of VAM 14.18 with the vertical die crack from dentils to base of 7 would also have a horizontal die crack present between top right of first 8 and top left of 7, and another between top right of 7 and top left of 2nd 8.
I'm unable to make that determination from the images

The die crack on my coin is not as pronounced as this image from Vamworld, so mine might be an earlier die stage.
Also I'm not seeing the other two die cracks on this Vamworld image.
Can you tell if my coin is the a1c reverse?
My coin has the upper part of the S touching the middle loop.
It also has the extra metal on the F and I think the feathers below the wings match the Vamworld pics above.
Edit for a couple more pics

Given the additional marker of the die crack across the cap band, I'll give you a confirmation. I hesitated based on the poor images of the engraved tail feathers, but the location and combination of the two obverse die cracks is enough to convince me that it is a mid die state VAM 14.18. Congratulations ! I'll post images of the PCGS MS64 DMPL from my set ASAP.
Be prepared for an onslaught of PM's from vammers looking to snag it from you.

Thanks for you input.
In doing my research on this VAM, I came across the 64 DMPL coin. Did you snag that from the original auction?
I see now that the coin must have been reholdered, since it shows the Vam info on the cert lookup.
As far as my coin, I'm not sure when I purchased it. It would have been back in the 80's, or might have been part of the coins I inherited from an uncle several years back. I was just sorting out some coins that I will be sending in for grading sometime in the future and thought I would check this one to see what VAM it was. I knew there were some rare 8TF, but didn't expect to actually find one.
The 64 DMPL came out of an auction unattributed, but recognized by numerous bidders. It was reholdered with attribution, and is permanently impounded in a set.
AFAIK, it is the only Mint State coin extant.
