What's the deal with "Evanson Mass Cents"?
I honestly haven't heard of these....contemporary counterfeits? Something later? Is there a good story with these?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Walter Breen assigned number 972 to the ½ ¢ and number 973 to the 1¢ respectively in Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins. Breen makes the following comment consistent with the timeline above "these were struck sometime after WWII by Springfield, Massachusetts coin dealer Henry Evans" and "examples are scarcely seen and seldom offered at auction". This restrike was also listed in the Red Book through the 1960's and is highly collectable copy. This is why this is sometimes listed as "Evans" rather than the correct Evanson attribution. The single set of each of the dies had been defaced and destroyed years ago.

Henry Evanson was also the Medal Chairman of the 1961 NENA ( New England Numismatic Association ) Convention so I will include an original 1961 medal as issued in the original cellophane with this lot to sweeten the pot.

One set sold one left half cent cent and NENA medal $100
