And 4 times the BINs on the bay right now. Nothing suspicious at all.

Nothing against Brent, but this is why I no longer bid on any PWCC auction.

Lead bidder has bid on top of himself as well. Could jack the price up even more without being top bidder.

Who in their right mind would bid against them? Is this the first time a PSA 10 has been bid as if it were a BGS 10? lol

Are there two people (at least) involved in this scam of a final sale price? Why did the under-bidder go up to $465?

I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

Several have sold for approx. $80 to $90 each lately, so yeah, that price in the OP is way off.

You may as well avoid EBAY altogether then. It's not limited to any one seller. I just give the card an amount I'm willing to pay and go with it in the last 10 seconds. I also educate myself on what the card is probably worth.

  • This could and does happen with all auctions companies to some degree. You can't police every single auction continuously. Just figure out what you are willing to pay, place your bid and move along. PWCC is tops in the industry in my mind in terms of reliability from both a buyers and sellers perspective.

In the thread that PWCC had about shill bidders and bid retractions, they mentioned that if anyone saw something suspicious in one of their listings to contact PWCC to let them know. There is no way that they can monitor every auction for suspicious activity and the eBay system does not alert them.

I sent PWCC an email with a link to the listing to see what their take was. I was told that the high bidder is a regular buyer and spends thousands every month. i then asked about the underbidder and was told the same thing. Below are copies of the responses I received from PWCC. I was given permission to post these by PWCC. Everything is not always as it seems.

    My first message:

    **Your previous message

Is this an auction where the high bidder was also the owner of the card? This card typically sells for around $100. The high bidder has 100% of his bids with PWCC in the last 30 days. I may be wrong but this seems like shill bidding to me.
    Thank you, James **

They first responded asking for a link to the listing. Once I sent the link, this is their response:

    **New message from: pwcc_auctions:

Thanks for sending the link. The buyer of this item is a very regular buyer with ours. He buys thousands of dollars worth of items from us every month. Although the sale price may have been high, he is a legitimate buyer.

    Best Regards,

    Betsy Huigens **

    My next message:

    **Your previous message

Thank you for your response. I don't understand why someone would pay close to $500 for a card when there are others like it listed with BIN prices at $100 or so. What about the underbidder. It takes two bidders to bid a card that high?
    James **

    PWCC Response

**The under bidder is also a regular buyer of ours. I think this is a case of a particularly nice PSA 10, paired with the bidder's trust in us as a seller.

    Best Regards,

    Betsy Huigens **

I then asked for permission to post the responses:

**Thanks for sending this post. If you'd like to post on the board, that would be great. We will also respond to the post if it's ok with you.

    Best Regards,

    Betsy Huigens **

Could it be someone from Beckett that thinks they can get in a BGS 10? Those go for $1,2000 and up.

  • My comment was more of a reactionary comment. PWCC has always been good and like others have said...there is no way they can police all their auctions.

It does seem a little peculiar that "a very regular buyer" that "buys thousands of dollars worth of items from us every month" only has 51 feedbacks. But then again, if they're bidding that much over typical prices... maybe thousands of dollars is only a couple items.

I'll also say I've never had any issues with PWCC and regularly bid on their items.

Very good points and you are correct. If they are spending $1000's a month I would suspect their feedback would be higher. Then again if you are paying 5x market rate for cards that could turn a Griffey rookie into a Mantle rookie pretty quick :o

If you buy numerous items from one seller in the same week, feedback does not go up by more than 1 point.

  • Hi everyone,

We have received a number of questions about this sale. Thank you to those of you who took the time to share our feedback with the rest of this board - it is greatly appreciated!

The under bidder is a regular buyer with PWCC. He has won and paid for five items totaling about $1400 in the last 90 days. Two of these purchases were in the $400-$500 range.

The winning bidder is a particularly regular buyer with PWCC. He is located in the Philippines, and because many eBay sellers do not sell to international buyers, he almost exclusively bids with PWCC. He has won and paid for dozens of items totaling over $60,000 in the last 90 days. The listing of concern was part of a $40,000 purchase and it was already paid for.

Finally, you are correct that this user ID has 51 feedback on eBay. This might seem low, but keep in mind that he buys many items with us each auction and even though we provide him positive feedback on each individual purchase, eBay only shows the feedback from his purchases as one.

As some of you know we now have a member of our team responsible for monitoring of bid activity. There are separate posts on this and other boards about our approach to monitoring bids with a specific focus on bid retractions/cancellations. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with questions and concerns about bidding on our auction. I can be reached at betsy@pwccauctions or bidmonitoring@pwccauctions.com.

    Thank you!

He was the underbidder and the underunder bidder! Someone should have bid him up. Give the Huigens some extra coin.
