1849 Open Wreath Gold Dollar D-2 Variety G$1 NGC MS62**Scarce Variety**

This is one of the scarcer varieties of the 1849 gold dollar discovered by John Danreuther. It is the D-2 or Danreuther Obverse 2, 1849 With L, Narrow Border, Normal Stars, Concave Field. The D-2 and D-3 are the rarest of the four Philadelphia mint varieties (see attached article from the Guidebook to Gold Dollars-Bowers). A sharp well struck example, with great color and luster. A small premium over the much more common D-4 variety. The easy way to tell the D-2 variety is by the repunching of the stars to the right and left of the neck. There are no repunched stars on the other with L varieties.
