I have a chance to buy this card raw. Price is fairly high but still reasonable in this condition. I have only seen pics of the card but will soon have it in hand to evaluate.
Here's my question: Is this card typically faked? Are there telltale signs of this card not being authentic? I just want to have a bit of knowledge before I see the card in hand.

Yes, there are fakes out there. Read this: http://www.ripkenintheminors.com/spottingcounterfeits.htm
are you being offered the entire set or just the Ripken alone? I'm always weary when purchasing a single card when the only way it was sold was part of a team set....The card is plentiful and I would perhaps wait to purchase one that is already slabbed...

I contributed to that article and it doesn't address the TCMA card issue that the OP asked about

I am being offered the 1981 TCMA card as a single card but packaged along with a 82 Topps Traded Ripken rookie as well.
Put it this way, it's easier to make a fake minor league card, so it could be a fake. Whether or not a crook(s) picked that particular card and mass produced it, I couldn't tell you. It's certainly possible. I mainly buy graded material to reduce the chances of something like that. I hope you're not putting too much money into this.
