JNDA price compare with current market price

Can anyone tell me how accurate is JNDA price compare with current market price? I know US catalog price is higher than the market price but Chinese catalog price is under market price. But I am not sure about JNDA price compare with market price, is JNDA over price or under price? Thanks.

Depends. And, I can only speak as one who shops from the US. I keep an occasional eye on the coins passing through Heritage, Stacks and Goldbergs. Plus I've recently discovered sixbid and there was at least one recent auction by a Japanese company. Then there's ebay where pricing can be 'optimistic' to say the least from some sellers.

There are a lot of coins that are more 'modern' that are way higher--if you can even find them. I'm talking about the wartime tin/aluminum sorts. Hard to find those at all in US markets, let alone in any kind of decent condition and never for the price in the guide if it's in a third party slab.

For the earlier coins I think the prices are too high in the catalog. Watching the average uncirculated graded stuff go by for much less than what the catalog would imply. Used to be the prices were closer, a lot closer. The truly spectacular stuff seems to get bid up well, but anything else languishes.

But, factor in the stronger dollar and when priced in yen the numbers work out a bit closer to catalog, but still seem like they are low.

Stork, Thanks for the reply. How about Meiji silver Yen and trade dollar? How close JNDA price with market price?

All this is speculation on my part, but if I were guessing from what I've noticed recently watching auctions and checking a few inventories at favorite websites.

JNDA seems high for the auctions, though the yen prices were closer than for the lower denominations--for the ones I've noted at least.

(The grade categories in the JNDA are relatively broad so there is a lot of wiggle room to go up/down. Maybe I'm only seeing the low end coin auctions ).

Now, asking prices on eBay are silly in a lot of cases...you'd think the sellers would notice they aren't actually selling!

There's quite a few trade dollars coming up in the upcoming Heritage. A lot are cleaned/problem coins so they may be more reasonable if you don't mind the cleaning. Straight graded trade dollars seem to do well no matter what and will likely be closer to the JNDA than the other stuff (including gold).

It seems to me JNDA price is high but I could be wrong. I was trying to find the price in Yahoo japan auction but can't find the completed auction price.

What auction? I was able to bid on Japanese auction via sixbid. The website for the auction had prices realized. Google translate helped a lot one I found the Japanese site.

I think HA price also high too or the market price went down a lot. Seller don't want to go down in price but there is no buyer want to buy at current price. You see lots of ebay BIN but no buyer.
