UFC Cards

I'd always been a boxing guy (and still am) but my wife is on the cusp of a 3rd degree black belt in tae kwon do and she got into watching UFC. So, as Jules Winnfield would say, "so that pretty much means I'm into watching UFC". But, as crazy people do, I decided I might as well look into what's collectable card-wise. There's actually only 14 guys in the UFC HOF - which makes sense considering it's only 20 or so years old. But I wanted to see what the HOF Rookie Cards of these guys would be and put together a registry set. I listed the guys in the Hall of Fame here but I'm also interested in what the rookie cards would be for current guys that are Future HOFers (Jon jones, Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Dominick Cruz etc). So anyone who wants to educate me, I'd very much appreciate it.

UFC HOFers
Royce Gracie
Ken Shamrock
Dan Severn
Randy Couture
Mark Coleman
Chuck Liddell
Matt Hughes
Tito Ortiz
Pat Miletich
Bas Rutten
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Don Frye
Forrest Griffin
B.J. Penn

And you'd have to think Anderson Silva is in the moment he retires.

Here are the UFC/mma cards I have. The rookie cards are tricky because they didn't start making mainstream US sets until recently. You have to really dig around to find some the sets from Japan and armature wrestling sets.

Bruce Lee 1974 Yamakatsu Way of the Dragon
Chuck Norris 1974 Yamakatsu Way of the Dragon Series 2
    Ken Shamrock 1995 BBM
Randy Couture 1998 Culture House - Asics Heros of Wrestling

    Chuck Liddell 2003 Sherdog
Royce Gracie 2006 Pride Card Collection

eagles33, I noticed that they're all BGS. Do we think PSA won't grade most of those?

I have that Couture graded by PSA and an amateur card of Mark Coleman graded by PSA too....the Coleman is next to impossible to find.

At the time psa wouldnt grade the couture, Liddell or the Yamakatsu cards. As the WCK mentioned.. psa does grade the couture now. I think I could have gathered enough info to get the yamakatsu cards graded. I was stuck on the Liddel. I could not find enough info on it. The card came with a DVD or VHS by sherdog. I could date the card because it had how old liddel was on the back. The card is also numbered so it would be very interesting to see other cards from the set. If anyone has any info on that card I'll gladly try to get psa to slab it and cross over all of them

Wck, what set is the Coleman card from?

Interesting info. If we were to put together a HOF RC set for the registry, do you guys think those would be the cards included or does PSA's stance on Mainstream cards takeover? Would that mean most of these guys are the 2010 Topps UFC set? I'd love to get started but I don't know where to begin!

I think a registry set would just be mainstream 2009/2010 which would be boring IMO. There is a lot of opportunity to find some interesting cards in the UFC arena I think

There are no UFC cards pictured above. Liddell and Couture cards are quite cool though, whatever they are. UFC Rocks ! Big fan, The Topps 2009 mainstream set isn't boring. The inserts though sell for huge. Fun stuff and quite collectible.

I think the HOF idea here is fantastic. With UFC it's rare anyone lasts more than a year or two on top so anyone actually making the HOF is quite the feat. The 2009 Round 1 boxes are silly expensive but that where a good chunk of those HOF rookies are.
Here is new some new stuff.

    Hey Guys,

I am a big UFC fan and have been trying to put together a collection of Rookie Cards and Auto cards of every UFC Champion from UFC 1 until present. I'm about 90% done with the Autos and slowly working on the rookies.

I would love to see a UFC Registry for UFC Champions Autos and one for their Rookie Cards. What do you guys think?

I like this list a LOT. I think we should separate out into HOFers and Champions and do two sets. Thoughts?

For Randy Couture what about his 2006 ginter card?

I graded a 2008 Donruss Ring King autograph set of 30. I have had it on the registry for years.

The first official UFC cards set was the 2009 Topps UFC Round 1. Making each card in the set the official UFC ROOKIE Card of the fighter.

Or should we consider the cards of the fighters from sets such as 2008 Donruss Ring King, 2006 Topps Allen & Ginger, or the Japanese BBM cards their Rookie Card because it predates the Round 1 set?

I agree, two sets sounds good to me.
