Crossover question? All thoughts/experiences welcome

Has anyone ever crossed a straight graded, non details NGC or other TPG coin (still in the slab) to PCGS at the SAME grade if it DID NOT cross on its first attempt, whether it be because it was cleaned, had questionable color, etc?

The only caveat being, that THE EXACT SAME SLAB WITH THE EXACT SAME CERT # had to be sent in multiple times.

Anyone who has done this, please feel free to to chime in....and also say how many attempts it took.

Thanks

If the coin is in a details, problematic holder from ANY TPG and was sent in for crossover consideration, it is almost a sure thing that it would NOT cross, unless you agree to a details condition.

If you feel that strongly about it, crack it and send it in raw.

Sorry, I meant a straight non details graded coin. Will edit my original post.

    No. Not ever.

Did several solid for the grade gem seated coins that would never cross. I'd say 2-4X on most of them. The most was 5X and that was a MS67 seated half from 2002-2008. The coin then CAC'd in 2008 and still wouldn't cross. I'm 0 for about 2 dozen on multiple attempts. The majority of these coins did CAC. Some are now in higher graded PCGS holders after I sold them.

    Roadrunner,
Any idea if some of those coins you sold were cracked out before getting upgraded at PCGS?

Short post, but I still hit roadrunner bingo on that one. "Gem", "seated", "CAC", and a date range. :)

I have never tried to cross a coin more than once. I've only tried about 3 crosses at all, though. I'd probably do more if I were planning to sell.

Add me to the "yes" team.
One took 3 times, but I had to extra space on my membership submission, so I just kept sending it back in (NGC holder) because I knew it was good for the grade, by PCGS standards as well, but I didn't have the balls to crack and submit raw.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Yes.

The dealer I bought the coin from had already unsuccessfully submitted the coin three times for crossover. It took me two more tries to get it into a PCGS holder at the SAME grade as NGC had. This is one of the reasons that I now only buy PCGS graded coins.

I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

I have no idea. I'm waiting for the one I tried 5X to make the crossover. It will be a $10K gain for the "lucky" submitter and finest known by a wide margin/pop 1 status...and CAC to boot. My mistake was not cracking that out 5X and trying it raw. By 2009-2011 there was no longer any reason not to crack out such NGC coins since the market already perceived them as worth less than the grade assigned.

When a coin starts becoming a grading problem it is time to sell it quickly and cut your losses. Don't throw good money after bad.
