The embossing is great can't get a good pic of that, and dang only 10 away from a ladder too.

And I get told by a "dealer" who wants it it's worth 400ish.

Nice centering, good deep colour, nice clean and original signatures - DAMN, why can't I find one like that from the little village I collect from?

That "dealer" is what gives the good ones a bad name. :# I understand the NBN market may be soft but the bottom hasn't fallen out. For $400 I'd buy it and I don't even collect US currency. That is a beautiful note and would make a fantastic type note.

Where's that "short" guy at, isn't he a Norfolk fanatic?

While a very pretty example and while I agree that 400 is really low (assuming this grades as an unc), this is not a scarce bank and there's a run of at least_a couple of dozen unc $20s in the census in the 123xx serial range (and no doubt more unreported). The prices are all over the map. Your note sold in 2003 for $431 in 2004 and even with the subsequent boom and bust in the national market that's a stale price. But, there were several other recent sales and the prices are all over the map:

    Jan 2013 PCGS 62 (12340) $499
    sep 2013 PCGS 63 (12396) $1527
    jan 2014 PCGS 62 (12308) $822
apr 2014 PCGS 62 (12344) $940 this note also sold in 2004 for just $310.

There were actually 2 of these in the September 2014 auction, the second a PCGS 62 (serial 12393 also not in the census) selling for just under 2k all in. The 63 was estimated at 1000-1500 and both notes beat the top end of the estimates before the juice. I don't know why the prices increased so dramatically over the prior couple of sales beyond a couple of really motivated bidders but maybe someone has more specific info about the VA market.

Just a different perspective and at the end of the day, I guess it comes down to what number a TPG puts on the holder and how many buyers are around today.

The NBNCensus shows an interesting trend in the serial numbers for the $20 PB Seaboard Citizens NB of Norfolk notes:

    12303, 5-7, 9-10, 12, 17, 21, 23-24, 34-5, 38-44, no 45, 46, 48, 50, 76-7, 88, 91, 95-7, 99.

Given that these $20 notes came from sheets of $10A-10B-10C-20A, one would expect there also to be some $10 PB's in this range. However, the census shows NO corresponding $10 in this serial number range. It looks like the bank held back the $20's for some reason, especially since all of these $20's are in AU or better condition.

Maybe there is a 12345 out there somewhere. Happy hunting.
