My 71-80 BB Set Project
This project started about two years ago. Bosox (Mike) was buying raw sets for much cheaper than wax boxes, getting all the cards and pulling the goodies. And doing pretty well. While that wasn't really my bag, it still seemed like a good bang for the buck. Then I saw a few cardrooms shared, CPAMike's being one of them. Seeing the binders organized by year, and knowing you could just pull one and flip through the whole catalog of the players/season seemed pretty damn cool. So the project was conceived.
Now I just needed to decide where to start. Figured since my pack runs start at my birth year, 1971 that'd be a logical starting point.
I already have most of the 80s sets boxed up in bins in the basement. So doing a ten-year run through 1980 was the end goal.
It was mostly a side project so I would just keep my eyes open from time to time and check the BST regularly. I'd also stock up on unikeep binders whenever I could find them on special. Then Brent (ugaskidog) shared his covers, backs, and spines for his 60s run, and I knew I had to have them. I commissioned the full 10-year run in a trade and chose Garvey and McCovey as the centerpieces for binders 1 and 2 respectively of each set. They are two of my favorite players growing up, it starts with Garvey's first Topps card and ends with McCovey's last.
I recently picked up the last set, 1978, and got them all sheeted and bindered. I still need 32 75s and 4 77s, but figured I could share the mostly completed project. I'll also continue to upgrade these sets with unsubbable rip remnants. Finally a good home for those pack fresh commons and o/c stars.
A big thanks to Brent for some great work.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Very cool project topped off nicely by those great binder designs. The detail for those inserts with the customized checklists is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Jim - Thanks for posting your progress. I've told you before that I can't wait to see your updates with the sweet cardboard inside! It was fun putting these binder covers together for you...like I said to you previously, the 1974 checklist was my favorite, because I got to add the Garvey auto which never existed
Awesome.
I have my 72 through 83 in unikeep binders waiting for overlays to be inserted. (Also Topps and OPC hockey 72-89)
So, how do I get in on this?
Last thing:
For the 1973 and 1975, did you do 330/330 or 396/264 plus some type of filler?
I'll shoot you a PM regarding binders if you are interested. I don't want to jack Jim's thread, so anyone can just shoot me a PM if interested.
The 660 sets are 37 pages per binder.
great stuff!!
congrats
