Anyone notice you can "tag" discussions?

I notice the "Popular Tags" list to the right.

do you hash tag it? #MyfirstTag when I do that, the hashtag becomes a link?
Is that searchable then?

or use the Tags area below?

From the above, it seems you use the "Tags" area below the edit area when creating a new discussion. so only the initial discussion can be tagged?

PCGSRocks is now a trending tag in the "Popular Tags" area.
