I have lived in Orlando my entire life. Growing up having so many warnings with no real impact made me cynical about these storms and the risk they posed to us in Central Florida.
Hurricane Charley in 2004 changed my view and many others. I loaded up on stuff to grill that afternoon and liquor to drink and then as the afternoon wore on the sky looked incredibly scary and around 6:45 Tom Teary came on Channel 9 and said folks bunker down this storm is going to rip through the I-4 corridor. There was massive damage and power outages for weeks in some cases.
This storm looks very serious and is set to do major damage to many cities in Florida. I am really hoping the experts are wrong as they are predicting 100 MPH sustained winds are going to his us tonight. I live near downtown Orlando and there are a ton of oak trees and pines that can do serious damage. The condominium that I live in is very wooded and lost nearly 100 trees in Charley.
Brevard County is expected to get the worst of it with 145 MPH sustained winds.
There are other board members spread out across Florida and Georgia and I hope everyone and their families make it through the storm with their safety and as little damage as possible.
The next 24 hours are going to be very interesting that is for sure.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Stressing to say the least.
Luckily I already had hurricane boards pre-cut and ready to hang over the windows tomorrow am.
However it's the surge that's got me tweaking considering the timing and of an incoming high tide.
Praying the gulfstream does it's thing and pushes it off shore.
Looks like it's going to be an impressive one. Just glad to get back home to the little one.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.
The next few hours is when it is expected to really pick up. It is looking like we aren't at risk of 100 mph winds and hopefully that stays the case.
I walked down to a neighbors for a few last night and they were housing a neighbor from their Daytona Beach condo and they were all bracing for their units to get blown out. Scary stuff.
