Your Opinion Please:

I have the 1967 Topps Baseball complete set that I am thinking about selling on EBay. Before I sell I was going to get all 41 HOF graded by PSA.

Do you think this will increase the value of the set to offset the cost of the grading ?

PSA is running a September special of $6 a card for cards valued less than $100 with a 50 day turnaround. Most cards would fall into the $6 grading, several would not, so lets say it will cost me $400.00 for grading, shipping and insurance.

Is spending $400 going to increase the value of my set. I would rate the cards in the PSA 5,6,7 grade.

Thanks for your input.

Grading the keys would perhaps make the set more attractive to a potential buyer who wouldn't want to do all the legwork. As for the generality of your questions, it's too difficult to predict, particularly without a few scans of your best cards. Some folks here might be able to give you better guidance if they could see your cards. The investment in grading would more likely be a sensible move. Good luck.

No reason you couldn't submit all 41 cards using the $6 special.

I would just get the key cards graded: Seaver, Carew, Mantle, maybe a few others and pay the couple dollars premium over the September special rate. No reason getting guys like Sutton, Aparicio, Mazeroski, Niekro, etc graded just because they are HOFers, especially if the cards are mid grade.

Selling as a set will reduce the 'actual value' recieved by grading, but look closely at your cards, and review these

A lot of your HOF'ers will need to grade at least a 7-8 to make it worth your expense of grading. I would not grade all of them if it were me. I would grade Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Carew and Seaver for sure and unless the others were PSA 8 or 9 potential I would not bother.

If your set is in the PSA 5-7 range, I would grade the following 20 cards if you think they could possibly grade 6 or 7. I would buy raw cards that are in "Excellent" condition and add them to the set. I would then sell the graded cards individually and the set raw. I THINK this would net you the most money, but of course you now have to put a little more of your time into the sale.

    Mays
    Aaron
    Yaz
    Clemente
    Rose
    Killebrew
    Clendenon

    Carew
    Seaver
    Shellenback
