1987 Topps 6 Box Rack Case Break

I know, I know...it's overproduced junk wax. However 87 Topps will always have a special place in my heart as it was the set which got me into collecting as a 6 year old kid. Every time I come across it and the price it right, I pounce. I stumbled across a FASC on Craigslist for $60 today (going rate is about $80-100 Dlvd). Collation and quality control was all over the map as expected but I feel I made out very well. After 3 1/2 hours of carnage, here are the goods...

  • baseballfan-My favorite 2 sets have one thing in common, the wood grain borders (62/87 topps). I love 62 because as an Angels' fan, it truly represents their 1st season and has RC of Frgosi, Chance, Buck Rodgers and Belinsky. I already have the Xmas factory set with the key cards graded PSA 9, I have never taken on slabbing an entire set...I have a tough time paying premiums of slabbing fees for graded commons.

stingray-unfortunately yes...I planned on saving a box or 2 for a rainy day but the individual I got them from still has 15+ cases in his closet so I know where to go when I need my fix. I will keep you in mind next time!

Craig44/Stone193-I am in the same boat, I'd much rather bust a case of 87 Topps for $60 than any of the new stuff.

That is a fun rip. This is why we collect cards.

Interesting to see that all the racks with key RC's had those cards in the last cell of the rack.

First full case I ever bought was a 6 box 87 rack case. Had so much fun ripping it back then. I sequenced all the key cards too image Been thinking about getting another one to rip...
  • I have a case of this sitting in the closet. From time to time I have debated opening it. But being a football guy, and an unopened one to boot, I would most likely just look for stars/rookies showing. Then drink a few beers while I threw the rest of em in a fire. Probably best to let em be where they areimage

(FWIW, 1987 Topps baseball is the first thing I opened as well, it was wax though)

I also love '87 Topps. And junk wax. Recently had to pass on this sea train full of cards. Owner just wanted too much money.

87 rack cases are one of my favorite memories of collecting. I remember busting and sorting those back in the day and finding those racks with the "stars" was as good as it got. back then there was no internet so it was all mail order, the anticipation that the case would arrive when I got home from school was quite a distraction to my classes LOL
