Every bowler dreams of bowling a 300...but isn't it actually much harder to bowl an 800 (three game

Hee hee, this is a sport that doesn't get hardly mentioned around here. image

Anyway, I imagine a lot of you guys might be bowlers right (I'm not personally)? Well, every bowler dreams of bowling a 300 game (and I think by tradition don't they get a special ring with a "diamond" for each one they get? As well as their name on a plaque or something at that alley?).

But isn't it actually much harder to bowl an 800 in a three game set? After all you must average 267 in those three games and that's not really much of a margin of error, plus you need much more endurance and concentration, I would think?

I have a friend who carries s 230 average so he has to shoot close to a 700 every time out to keep it. He rolls lots of 800's and has bowled 300 on consecutive nights and in the same series. Today's groomed lanes for leagues and today's equipment make for deluxe scoring

Yes 800 series is tougher no doubt. My highest series is 672.

I must be missing something here!! Wouldn't 2,032 strikes in a row be over 60 300 games in a row!!!

for the average bowler who is in maybe 1-2-3 leagues a week a 700 series is an accomplishment that isn't easy.

As far as which is "tougher" you are probably correct but I think you also noted something important in your original post when you stated there is "not really much or a margin of error" in bowling an 800 series. The difference is that in bowling a single 300 game there is "NO margin for error". Longevity of "near excellence" in a 3 game series is certainly quite impressive but 12 consecutive strikes from the 1st frame through the 10th frame is still the pinnacle.

when I was bowling I would have rather rolled a 300 game for the glory of it, but I think an 800 series is a more difficult accomplishment.

    I agree I have 2 300 games but no 800

that's tough, a 900 is 3 perfect games in the a row, you bowl 3 games in a league night. so you would need to average 266 or better for 3 games. that's tough to do. look at your local bowling establishment and you will see probably many 300's in a season but only several 800's for the season.

No doubt 800's are more rare.

--- when I bowled 2-3 times a week I had a few 700's, I think the highest was around 730, but never even had an outside chance of hitting 800.

--- I had several shots at 300, though, stringing together 7-8 in row during games and once 11-12.
