Ebay isnt, but I think individual sellers are starting to be a little less lenient on slower payers, especially given the
    volatility of many items
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

eBay allows sellers to automatically setup the ability to file a non-paying case after 48 hours. You likely purchased something from a seller who has that setting enabled. You still have 5 days after that to pay, before the seller can cancel the auction for non payment and a strike gets placed against your account.

With that said... it's 2016 and most, if not all, listings require Paypal payment. Excuses are just that... excuses. I still can never figure out why in this day and age, people still drag their feet paying for what they have won. 48 hours should be more than enough time!

Even Donald Trump would pay within 48 hours.

Thanks for the info. Wow just 2 days. As a seller, I always give at least 4 days until I get concerned about payment. I think Probstein gives 7 days before filing a claim.

eBay's app is useless for combined payments and some sellers have their settings all screwed up and you can't pay via the app. I usually don't pay for anything won from Friday evening on until I'm back at my computer on Monday. The sellers who have it set to 48 hours get added to my 'never buy from again' list.

Don't bother...you'll already be on their BBL! image
  • The question is - why did you wait for 2 days to pay for the auction? You made the bids and you knew when the auction would end - pay for it right away.

Don't blame the seller when you take 2 days to pay.

I can understand being apprehensive about payment after a couple days but filing a complaint seems a bit impatient.

  • It's so easy to pay these days 2 days is more than enough. It should be 24 hours. Wifi everywhere including in airplanes so there really is no reason to wait. I would say that in 95% of the time if your not paid in 24 hours you aren't getting paid.

Complaint is the wrong word here... an unpaid item case is more like a reminder. No action can be taken from opening the unpaid item case itself... it just starts the clock until an actual complaint can be filed.

The earliest an unpaid item case can be opened is 48 hours after auction completion. The formal complaint (ie. cancelling the transaction, placing a strike against the buyers account, and getting a final value fee credit) cannot be filed until 5 days after the opening of the unpaid item case.

By opening the case right away, it provides a payment reminder (kick in the pants, per say) to the buyer and still gives them 7 days total from auction completion to make payment, without issue. 7 days should be more than enough time!

I am strictly a buyer on eBay and usually pay immediately after notice of a win, unless it is a late evening notice ( which many are), then I pay the next morning. I travel quite a bit internationally and when I do I let seller know that Internet access might prevent immediate payment via PayPal and inquire if that would be a problem. If they say yes ( they rarely do ), I do not bid. if they say no, I would not expect them to "remind" me after 48 hours.

On the other hand sellers see so many complaints about slow shipping I think any buyer who routinely waits 48 hours to pay is showing poor eBay etiquette

Two days is when ebay will send a reminder (unless the seller has selected the "no" box).
