Hey guys - Well wanted a few opinions on these pick up relative to certain vintage criteria to what you may invest in your own eras
The first card is a non foil recent HOF inductee however plagued by many of his injuries - A 1993 SP Ken Griffey Jr. PSA 10 - Its a pop 35 however my main concern is that boxes of these are fetching well over $1500 and the seemingly popular 93' jeter is increasing going up month after month - Now this is for PC and long term however my thought on this $20 find is that in 30-50 years like some of the older vintage cards collected nowadays may yield some value out of this card as boxes alone as mentioned are priced high as well as the Jeter Foil going for 35k+ currently - Is it normal to pick up HOF'ers for PC long term when currently boxes are through the roof and a single card in the set is fetching the astronomical pricing? Not comparing Griffey to Mantle in anyway however even years following Mantle rookie cards we still see a pretty penny for his following cards after his rookie year - Just feel like this could be a $500 card in 30+ years when we are all a witness to the Jeter 10's Fetching 250k in this set
The second card was more for ascertaining an autograph by Mike Piazza as I golf with him here on miami beach - Its his 1993 Flair Rookie card PSA 10 which is also a low POP however the emphasis on the PC in regards of how beautiful an autograph from him would look on this card compared to the other Rookie cards he has in this year (aside from the Bowman 92' which would be a great signature card to acquire as well) My question is with this one is being with him for 4+ hours a day on the golf course how should he be approached in regards to autographing some collectible cards for me - Im sure just from some of the interactions you all have with HOF'ers or just players in general alike sometimes people are approached in a certain way regarding signing collectible cards as there may be a right way - Was wanting to know the best course of action to asking him to sign a few cards for me although have no problem on asking him in general -Sometimes its just a courtesy as I'm sure some players/people don't even like to sign things - Also what are the thoughts on cracking the PSA 10 to acquire the signature and resubmitting it - Done some small research on the forums and some people simply state to just get the autograph authenticated and not per say grade the card - In this particular case would it be better to get dual grade or what are your thoughts? GO..

"Yeah."
"Could you sign my card?"
"Um, sure. Let me finish up here first and zip up my trousers."
"Please make sure to wash your hands."
"Yeah, right? Dude, put that iPhone away."
As far as the Piazza, those card are usually in 9 and 10 grades already. They are thick as heck. As long as cards don’t have bends/creases in them and the corners and PSA 8 sharp and above, then those are the type of cards that I usually like to have signed in my PC. In other words, just leave the Piazza as it is and buy a raw one for like $2 or whatever they go for.
Just one collectors opinion.

Hi and welcome. Personally, I think you are wasting your money if you think of those cards as in investment. The only cards that will really be worth anything in SP are the Jeter along with Chipper in a 10. Thats in. Nothing else. If you collect Griffey’s and want to add that sweet 10 into your collection, then that’s great but that’s all there really is to that. It took over 20 years for that card to be worth $30. Youre going to wait another 30 - 50 years (which I assume you’ll be in your seventies at least by then) and then you'll what, sell this to pay 1 months worth of a water bill? Look at Frank Thomas 90 LEAF - and that was an actual legit rookie card from a premier set. $65 and you can own one in a 10. When he entered the hall, I think those cards increased about .50 cents.

Appreciate the response - Yeah again Im sure these aren't the 500 cards or anything in 30 years however griffrey I grew up watching with rodriguez and the seattle team - Guess its just my generation - Wanted to find some nice 10's for PC
My question to you is how much is a 90' leaf box going for? Is it as much as the 93' SP? Id like to think that in 30 years the Jeter SP fetch 250k in the PSA 10 thus lifting some 3 or 4 year HOF'ers in that set by that time - If not its just going to hang in PC
StingRay I totally agree with you however couldn't pass up one of the greatest catchers to ever play the game rookie card - Such a nice card to get an auto on too - Good advice on buying a $2 and just sending that in as opposed to cracking a 10 PSA - Thanks for the advice!
If you know him well enough to be a regular golf partner of his it seems odd that you would ask for his autograph.
Isn't this a collectors forum? Like to think we all have similar interests which is what bonds people during their time with one another - Essentially like this platform of a forum we have a voice on and share - Already spoke to him a month back about a Chicago show he was going to attend - Also in regards to the proceedings of HOF announcement - Told him it was going to be his year - He seemed rather nice about talking about all his upcoming events and life
Like I said the question was about how to approach the subject - Well aware of athletes electing not to sign memorabilia - Good examples I seek not just stating your opinion that 'its odd" or inevitably I miss understand your interoperation "of its odd"
Who are you excited to watch this year for your seahawks

If you're a regular gold partner of his, it seems odd that you would get a card signed. Why not a jersey or an awesome 16x20?

I played ball with Mike in Miami and he used to get me signed stuff from the Dodgers before he was big time , and the above questions seem legit. I never felt strange asking him if he could pick up a few G/U bats for me. I know message boards did not exist back then, it if they did I don't know if I would need to ask advice from a board on whether or not to have him sign a card for me. I understand community and bonding - just seems like if you know him it would not be a tough thing to ask.
