Question about Proofs

I was trying to photograph some proof Washington Quarters and Franklin Halfs. The fields look nice in hand but when you look at the photos the fields look as though they are full of snow flakes. When looking at the fields with a 20x loop the fields look as though they have goose bumps. So I went to coinfacts and looked at the images of proofs, cameo's, and deep cameo's (PR 66 and 67) and they all have the same effect to some extent. Can someone explain what going on.

I can't explain the optics, but the best way to shoot proofs is to get a piece of black cardboard, and cut out a hole for your lens.

Since the mirrored fields reflect what is in front of them, you'll get a nice black and white cameo picture.
