Probably my rarest NY note. Finest of approximately five known.

Not exactly what you probably were expecting when you asked for rare New Yorks...here is a postage stamp envelope from a NY merchant that was used when coins were scarce during the Civil War. Merchants used them instead of coins. The stamps became stuck inside and the envelopes wore out quite quickly...good examples are quite rare. These appeal to stamp collectors, fractional collectors and Civil War memorabilia collectors.

@sjk1776:Your set of notes is really beautiful; the 4s looks like it was printed last week... The 1s I think is only in the first issue - right?

I wonder if they would have really built a fully operational water system with that steam pump had not the war occurred and the British captured New York.

  • @Beryl, Thanks they are all very crisp and yes, the 1s is only in the first issue in 1774.

As for changing history, only our imaginations may know what really happened!

  • You've seen this one before - the super rare 1985 $100 New York Star - I only have a census of five known including this one, but there exists a claim that there are six to ten known examples total...

It has been graded as a PCGS 20.
