BRNA Show Report

At midday on Thursday my back went out. This is from an old High School injury from the mid-1960's. I knew that my planned trip to Dalton, Georgia for the Blue Ridge Numismatic Association show was in jeopardy.
When I got up on Friday, there was no way that I could ride for several hours. Drat!
I set an alarm for dark plus on Saturday morning and hoped that I would feel better. When the alarm went off I did feel better and decided to try to make the trip. Our daughter decided to go with me. We quickly got ready and set out for Dalton.
After a couple of hours we stopped at Hardee's for breakfast. A couple more hours of driving put us pulling into the convention center parking lot at 11:15. The convention center sits on top of a hill and has plenty of free parking. It is a very nice facility and one of my favorites.
We got our name tags and decided to start on the right side of the bourse floor. There was a troop of Boy Scouts on the floor and a few other families with kids.
After a short time there was an announcement that the plate lunches were ready. We went to check it out. They had a plate of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and roll for $8.50. Not a bad price and better than the usual convention fare. I was fed so much fried chicken when I was a kid that I can not stand the stuff now. We passed on the lunch.
I checked several currency dealers stock of National Bank Notes but found nothing. I only asked one dealer to pull out a coin. It was nice but too much for me. The best coin that I saw on the floor was a 1902 $20 in PCGS PF-63 .
At 1PM our daughter attended the YN meeting. It was packed. They learned about Hobo nickels.
At 2PM we went to a SPMC presentation about obsolete Tennessee notes during the Civil War. I learned a few things.
Shortly after mid-afternoon I had bought nothing and we headed for home. We stopped at Cracker Barrel for a late lunch. Our daughter took the wheel for about an hour after lunch.
We arrived home around dark. I had a good day with our daughter searching for coins!

Congratulations on a good day.
I decided not to make the 4 1/2 hour trip this time.
Sounds like a good time even without any purchases.
