Good (free?) software for tracking my collection?

Hi all,

Newly re-entering the hobby and have enjoyed reading lots of your posts in here.

Grew up as a kid collecting in the later 80s/early 90s and started getting interested again.

I wold like to input/track my collection in some kind of database-- I started a simple excel database but thought there might be something better available.

****Any recommendations about collection tracking software?****

Thinking excel-based download or online web-based.

Most of my cards are raw so it seems PSA registry isn't too helpful yet.

Thanks and glad to be "back"!

    Hiya TB

    First what's the name mean?

    Your first name is?

    Welcome back to the hobby.

What years did you continuously collect and at what age did you quit.

Your main interest? BB, FB, Bkb, hockey, wrestling?

    What's your goals moving forward?

Can't help ya with a program - I'm at this point hopeless. Have no idea what I have?

    Don't be a stranger.

Thanks guys-- you've given me some food for thought, especially about the PSA registry. Thought it was only graded cards.

Stone - my name is Chris, a big fan of the "old" Nintendo game Tecmo Super Bowl (and the original Tecmo Bowl to a lesser extent).

Tecmo Boil is just a play on that.

Collected mainly 1988-1992, interested most in basketball then baseball then football then hockey.

Best worst story: Got lucky buying a bunch of 1986 Fleer Bkb in 1988...sold a COMPLETE SET in 1993 for $450...still have some doubles but not #57.

Want to get the collection to a point where I have a record of everything I have, understand the value and protect condition for future. After that maybe piece some off or trade for cards I wanted as a kid but never had.

Anyway that's what I've got for now. Thanks for asking!

  • We collected around the same time and I'll bet you will go through what I went through. When you first get back in, you go after all those cards you always wanted but couldn't buy as a little kid, then you get into stuff you didn't know much about.

My suggestion is buy graded till you know what you are doing. Much safer that way and especially in 80s/90s stuff, they are mainly worth much more graded

Gotcha JJC- I can already relate to some of what you're saying.

Also thanks guys for the PSA registry advice; I've started inputting and it's going well so far.

Holding and looking at some of these cards nearly brings me to tears. Good memories of good times.

    Glad to be back.

    Thanks again.

I enjoyed reading your posts Chris.

You were collecting during the major BOOM of sports cards. Back then it reported to be a Billion dollar industry.

I had a great time - my son had just got into collecting which made it even better.

On the organization - as a game collector - collectibles - some coin ops....this is just the tip of the iceberg of messes that have to be sorted out:
