1963 Fleer Baseball

This is the set that pulled me back into collecting about 5 years ago. I think its an underrated issue with a small number of cards, star power, gorgeous eye appeal, and some cool history behind its release too.

I've been slowly accumulating this set in high grade with centering being a main focus. I currently have 43 of the 67 total cards in this set.

Anyway, I've never seen a wax pack of 1963 Fleer available for sale. Has anybody seen anything in the past few years? Do they even exist?

It is a very nice set. My set is ungraded. Mike ( Stone on board) has most if not all the set in highly graded form and is a real fan of that set.

The packs had cookies rather than gum because the contracts Topps had with the players gave them an exclusive right to sell player images with candy or gum. That was the same reason the 60 Leaf packs came with marbles.

The set is small not because it was halted by Topps litigation but because sales of the set were poor and resulted in a planned further series being scrapped by Fleer. The Topps 63 set was a nice one and gum was more popular than sterile cookie.

Would you rather chew 54 year old gum or eat a 54 year old cookie ?

They used to come up fairly often- about '06 I had 3 of them. But like most pre '70 wax they never seem to come up anymore.
I've yet to see an uncut sheet of them, while '59, '60 and '61 Fleers are really common. I've got a 3 card panel (not a salesman sample) but that is the most I've seen.

    Hiya Jim

If ya could only get into your time machine?

Packs were around a plenty in the early 90s and as Anthony said - now? Rarely.

I've been working on the set since 04 and rarely see a card I really want.

As you said - you want 'centered' specimen - best of luck buddy.

I don't think I'm happy with more than 50% of what I have.

I even went to looking at 9s which can be pricey.

    This is my best card:

Those would make superb companions to a set Anthony!

I have none of them tho. Keep me in mind if you tire of those pieces. image
