Post National slowdown - added 1975 and 76 photos

Got back from the National last weekend, and got to open some boxes and packs with my son, and he was really interested in some of the items we have collected over the past couple of years. We got a lot of the stuff out and organized it down in the basement and took some photos while we had it out. One of the things like to do outside of collect high grade 50's and 60's graded cards is collect by year.

Below are some photos of some items in our collection with a brief description. Hope everyone enjoys them.

Unopened box collection - started this a couple of years ago, and wanted to start from my birth year (1968) through when I collected as a kid which was 1980. Have duplicates of most boss, and missing 1971, 1973, and 1975 regular for now. Will grab 1977-1979 here shortly.

Here is my collection of 1968-1970 boxes along with some raw and a few graded cards. Have about 100-150 raw cards which look like they just came out of for box.

These are part of my unopened graded pack run from the 1970's. I am only missing 1971, 1975 regular, and I have some 78's so I am good there. The 1971 pack is going to be a tough one to find.

Hope you enjoyed the photos, and tomorrow I will post some 1974-1976 photos.

Updated photos with 1974-1976 items.

1975

1976 - my favorite year due to sentimental reasons - first year of little league baseball, my Reds won their second straight WS, and my childhood idol (Bench) was WS MVP.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

    Very nice Keith.

I got back more seriously into collecting because of my son in 1989/90.

I have some boxes - I took the pain and time to fortify them and shrink wrap them.

Only have a few - yours look incredible buddy.

Great pics Keith. That '69 Banks looks really nice.

Very impressive unopened collection even if some boxes are emptied. The 1978 & 1979 packs brings me back to being a kid. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments guys, and here are some more photos. Need to learn how to stuff and shrink wrap the unopened boxes so they present a little better - only the 1975 box is that way.

    Thanx Doug

For anyone who plans to do this - first one can get a kit on eBay for about 50 -75 bucks - very cheap.

There's plenty of "how to" videos on youtube on this topic.

Small boxes like Milk Duds require less preparation.

It's a good way to salvage boxes in bad shape.

Thanks for this thread. For one, it reminded me that Bench has some of the best looking cards out there. Both his 69 and 76 are terrific. I'm not even a fan of his or the Reds, but it makes me wanna tackle his basic set.

I posted some on CPAMike's thread but can post some here. I grew up in Miami, Florida, but have been a Reds fan since I was 4. Not sure why but Bench was my idol growing up, and part of it could be he looked almost exactly like my dad - same dark hair, dark skin... Could tell you everything about the Big Red Machine, and collected everything on Bench - cards, postcards, autos.. The first team in HS I got scouted by was the Reds, and two guys I caught in college pitched for them in the early 90's. I will have to dig my stash out but here are a few items I had handy.

Are you a UK fan - football, basketball, or both? If you get up here you can use my tickets, and we will take care of you! Might have a little connection over there image

I always wanted to do the wax pack run from 70-79 but now its very expensive,

Keith...You have very nice stuff. Those wax boxes are very cool. Do you have a 1964 Topps? That was the first year I bought cards.

Monte - thank you for the note and comments. I don't have a 1964, and I decide to start the run with my birth year(1968). Figured it was a good place to start and cheaper to do it that way!

Had to change it up, so opened some Bowman baseball jumbos this evening with the little guy. Have a table in the basement just for opening cards, and currently building a storage/display area to display cards and memorabilia with a storage area for supplies and cards/boxes/sets.
