1984 O-Pee-Chee Baseball Rack Packs

Are these rare? I couldn't find too much information about them except a completed listing on ebay that had this:
"This auction is for the scarce 51 card rak pak shown which debate has, may have never been officially released to the public. I was offered several of these in the early 1990's which I have hung onto but have received little information on over the years. About twenty years ago I contacted Mark Murphy, known as the baseball card kid, the number one unopened pack specialist in the hobby at the time, and even he knew nothing about these. They are 1984 O-Pee-Chee brand cards ,released in Canada and printed in both English and French. They were placed in three individual cellophane sleeves that could not be searched, and then put into the rak pak wrapper which were the same exact wrappers that OPC used for their hockey rack packs that they released in 1982, which were also very rare. Another industry expert suggested to me that 1984 was a highly produced set and to in trying to push the abundance of cards to customers these rak paks were made as a prototype / test issue type suggestion that never took off. Anyone with knowledge of these , please let me know. I have never seen another listed on eBay other than the several I have out on here myself."

Edited to say I'm an OPC baseball collector in general, all years, but have still never seen these.

I have yet to see any, but I would really question the 1982 copyright.
That's a good observation, but is it possible that OPC reused old unused materials? Kind of like Topps in 1985 where they used 1981 leftover boxes? Just a thought.
There was a discussion about these a while back.
LINK.
ST auction sale - went for over 100 bucks.

Agree Jason - if anyone has a question - he's the man - I like his website.
I bought a lot of 4 of them because I had not seen them before, and while the Ryan and Smith packs are cool, this was the one I was most interested in:

Mike, I didn't see your link until after I posted and true to form Tom came in to save the day!

Like I said - back in 2014, someone paid over 100 bucks for Matty on the front and not centered nice like yours.
Congratulations on a really nice pickup.

Interesting topic. It seems a bit suspicious that as infrequently as we see these racks that such a big percentage seem to have stars/rookies showing on top.
Is it possible to open these racks and reseal them and have them look unopened? How do they do it?
The likelihood of a star/rookie on top increases by 50% since there are half the number of cards in the OPC set vs. Topps.

It is also just as likely that those packs with stars on top were saved by collectors at a higher percentage rate over the years, as well. The sample size in this thread is not significant enough to make that assessment, in any case.

Thanks for that thread Mike!

I have been a bit more focused on OPC unopened of late. All wax, never ran across racks! This one is awesome, can't imagine that there are many out there with the big two from '84 on top.
