NEWP: Harz Baptisimal Taler + Shooting Medal + Older Purchase

Some spirited bidding on The Cape Coral Collection of Multiple Talers today. One comprehensive collection of multiple Talers (mostly German) ranging from 2 to 10 (!!) Taler denominations. I lost on my bids, yet then threw in a reasonable offer for the Harz piece which seldom shows up in mint state. Nice and original. The second piece bought outside of auction is a scarcer Austrian shooting medal held during Franz Joseph's reign.

Harz. ND (1701-67). Baptismal Taler. Katsouros-10A. DAV-2935. Obv: Christ being anointed by John the baptist in the river Jordan, Biblical quotations around. Rev: Biblical quotations in 10 lines and in margins. A beautifully toned presentation piece which retains much underlying luster. NGC MS-62.

Well, if that shooting medal is a MS64, one would have to be blinded by a MS65. And though I suppose I can look this up in Google, who are those loose moraled individuals cavorting in that bathtub?

I am partial to that Harz - it is a tough piece in those higher grades. I can't say I have seen one in mint.

    Congrats on both new additions.

    Love the baptismal scene.

That shooting medal is awesome. Tyche looks a bit matronly there, but it's a superb design.

What's going on in that coat of arms on the reverse? A little coed fountain-bathing? Sure, why not! (Edit- aha- I hadn't read your second reply yet when I posted that.)

Zohar, this is the first shooting Thaler that I have truly loved. Well done. Truly gorgeous design that rivals any crown, IMO.

It's a medal not a taler. It's a question of taste. Its a far more modern cut which I generally do not collect as my focus in 16-18th century, yet falls under Franz Joseph commemorative issues.

That's what I meant. Shooting medal. I'm not a morning person and it was wee hours image

What can I say, I like modern cuts.

And another older purchase that I wanted to update - a fractional Taler of a scarcer emperor type in such quality. The image is NGC's website type image.
