To celebrate the start of training camp - finally got a certain 49er QB

Not Joe, but Steve Young. I've seen the value of PSA 9's all over the map from $350 to $1600. Got a nicely centered one somewhere on the lower end of the range. The buying group must have missed this one image

I love the USFL rookie cards

    Thanks guys.

I've been working on a 1980's QB collection in PSA 9. So far I got all of the obvious QBs - Montana, Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Marino, Troy Aikman, and Elway. I am still looking for a Warren Moon.

I need everyone else's opinion on the rest. These guys are significant 1980's QBs but they wouldn't be locks like the guys above. Should I add them as well?

    Phil Simms
    Jim McMahon
    Boomer Esiason
Randall Cunningham - I could probably afford a PSA 10 for this one.
Doug Flutie USFL - Possible PSA 10 as well

Even though his rookie card isn't in the 1980's, I am also debating Joe Theismann. One of the most memorable moment for me was watching MNF as a kid when LT snapped his leg and they kept showing the replay again and again and again. LT might as have well been Freddy Krueger to me.

I would add them all, and add Kosar as well. I am doing something similar but expanding to the 70s in 8, 60s and earlier in best grade I can justify as well as 90s and current day
    Looking for FB HOF Rookies

I've been on a NFL HOF RC kick lately myself. I know you're working on an 80s collection, but dude.......Brett Favre!!!

I have both the 1991 and 1992 Stadium Club Favre. As a Detroit Lions fan, it pains me to have those cards in my collection. I still have nightmares of Favre hitting Sterling Sharpe on a 55 yard fly route in the corner of the end zone in the 1993 Wild Card game. image

I'm the punky QB, known as McMahon.
When I hit the turf, I've got no plan.
I just throw my body all over the field.
I can't dance, but I can throw the pill.
I motivate the cats, I like to tease.
I play so cool, I aim to please.
That's why you all got here on the double
To catch me doin' the Super Bowl Shuffle.

How could you skip the lyrical master?

Good list and like the Theismann and Kosar mentions as well.

I was debating Kosar. Great college career and start with the Browns. I forgot if he got hurt or if the Browns started to stink, but it seems like he faded quickly after those losses to Elway.

I am a Saturday football fan much much more so than a Sunday one. So, IMO I'd add Harbaugh to your list. PSA 10 is pretty darn cheap to purchase, for little more than grading fees. Not exactly HOF in the NFL, but I am heavily biased towards UMich!

I think you are on the right track with your list and Kosar. The name I would add to the mix is Dan Fouts. Personally, I would start with Randall and go from there. He was one of the most exciting players from the era.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

Which one; are you targeting the 1981 Red Rooster or the Jogo for your collection?

That is a good question. I was thinking about the same thing for Theisman. I was leaning towards Topps since I didn't collect the CFL cards as a kid, but I'm open to opinions.

As for the Fouts, I have that card already, forgot to add him to the list. I loved the Air Coryell offense. It's funny that we think of Fouts as a prolific passer, he had 3 seasons over 4000 yards and 3 seasons with more than 25 TDs. Matthew Stafford already has 1 5000 yard season, 4 4000 yard seasons, and 3 25+ TD seasons in only 7 years. The game has changed.

I'll post the other QB cards later today. I don't do the registry, so this my chance to contribute.

If you mean the most recognizable influential QBs of the 80's i agree with your list...but i would put mcmahon at the top actually....the most memories and kind of defines the 80s with his brashness, attitude, ...kind of with The Boz...and the Super Bowl shuffle..
Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all. image

Figured since you had the USFL items in there among the NFL ones, that the focus was on acquiring the first card for each player rather than the first NFL one. I can understand why some people prefer only the NFL cards, but if it were me, my personal preference is the other route, to get whichever is the earliest official issue item regardless of league.
