1986 Fleer Michael Jordan

I have these 3 Michael Jordan's that I feel they might be able to get a grade bump. One in this thread is a 10. Please rank (1-3) 1 being the best and 3 being the least favorite of the 3. I just want to see if you guys see the same thing I do about these cards. I do think I have a decent shot at a bump of 1 of the 2 cards. I do appreciate your opinion.

I prefer the top right card, with the "3" showing. That's the best card, to me.

Far right, no way. Faded color, fish eye, etc.

So........I think the one on the left is your 10, and the middle is your bump candidate.

I agree with Matty. Top right card is slightly nicer than top left card (but it is very close). Is touch of white along edge on top right card from the scan? If not, I may change my opinion. Bottom card is definitely the weakest of the three.

  • The one with the 3 showing. Faded one with the fish eye for sure last.

First one is NM7 and should bump

    Second is the 10

Last one is NMMT8 with poor centering

    2
    1
    3
  • I think these all have centering that could land in a 10 holder. It's the other issues which keep them lower. As others have said the 3rd card is the weekest.

I like the centering of the 2nd card the best but are there white specs on the card or is that dust? And then ultimately the surface will be the thing that drives most collectors crazy as many issues don't show up unless in hand.

    Left to right
#1 card is slightly o/c and tilted but has great eye appeal -2nd best card
#2 card is really, really nice WINNER
#3 card is faded, edges are touched, off centered and one fish eye - Loser of the bunch.

    Top to bottom

    9
    10
8/8.5 - cannot tell win the upper right corner what it is. All are strong and middle one by a hair for better centering.

On my screen they are displayed Left to Right. I'd rank them - middle card the 10, the one on the left not far behind and the one on the right lesser.

Maybe I did not word it correctly, but there's one 10 in these 3 cards, but I feel the other two that is not the 10 might have a chance for the bump, the reason why I'm asking for opinions. So far I do appreciate everyone's input. Later this evening I'll post the grades.

    Thanks

Obviously the middle card is not the PSA 10 because the evaluation that the OP has set before us feels one of the cards (middle card) is nicer than the PSA 10 on the right or left. If I were to guess the grades of these three.

    #1 PSA 10
    #2 PSa 9
    #3 PSA 8

    2-1-3 in order
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I dont think GEM-MT 10 fits under the white out of the first card
  • travis ttravis t Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭
Ah. Good observation. Didn't think of that. D'oh.

Bottom card is the weakest of the 3. Top left card has L to R centering that would prohibit a bump from 9 to 10, so I think the 10 is the card on the top right.

I guess they didnt hold that fisheye in the U of guard against it. image

If the 10 is card #3, it will be quite interesting..

Agree with this. Fish eye is the worst one, the others are close but I think top right has slightly better centering. If it's not the 10, it should be, but getting that bump may cost you multiple subs - I doubt they just give it away.

Thanks again for your input. I think the 9 could be a 10 and the 8 maybe an 8.5

yeah - so just my opinion but the 9 is a 9, the centering is probably within specs for a 10 but there's plenty of 10s already

the 8 is an 8, the fisheye kills it

i wouldn't spend the money on either for a review, but i might consider selling the 10 and being content with the 9, know what i mean? its such a slight difference that if you didn't have the 10 anymore, you'd never notice

I recognize the one that starts with a 2 at the bottom, so I abstain from voting.
It came from a group break a few years ago.

    All very nice cards

They have been especially tough on high grade/value bump attempts of late, in my opinion.

the one on the right is a ten. The left one could possibly bump from an 8.5 to a 9 but the centering is what would hold it back. Bottom one has a print spot and is oc t/b.

Sorry, was looking at the webpage in small format. The one with the 3 is a ten. far right has no chance, and far left could bump from 8.5 to a 9.

geez, a little late to the party, didn't see you had already posted the grades lol

    Upper Left: #2 Rank (guess it's a 9 & you want to try for a 10)

Upper Right: #1 Rank (looks like a 10 to me; centering seems perfect)

    Bottom: #3 Rank (it's an 8)

Edited to add: I posted this before I saw the results. Promise image

    Enjoy your collection!

The 3 look appropriately graded to me, there is a clear difference between the 9 and the 10 but with the price you could gain by getting a 10 it might make it worth the chance to send the review in even if it's less than 15% it could bump.
