Fred ... I don't think there was a PSA 1 going for less than 11-12 Grand.

Thank you all for the nice words. I am having a great National, first the Mantle and then a great deal with Dave(70sToppsFanatic) Friday night at Vic and Anthony's Steak House. I was blessed to be able to look at his 71's and they are truly a thing of beauty!

Bobby, I haven't been in a while, the last time I went was soon after Mr. Fleming passed away and I gave my condolences. I need to stop in and snag another box or two. I am sure they still have boxes upon boxes of 84 Topps wax!

    Jason---

Hearty congratulations on your crossing to the PSA 2. I have always loved and preferred the black lined version circumventing the team logo---the colors really intensify and pop with that version. Again, nice ending, and like Indy, you got out of that one beautifully. Thanks for sharing the pictures and your genuine, justified joy. ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)

One of two reasons I attended the National was to sub the Mantle, the other is to meet everyone from the boards for some good fellowship. These pickups were the cherry on top and my collectors club sub was the whip cream. The item I was most excited about? The 2005 Studio Greg Maddux as it added to my Greg Maddux Basic Set. The Basic Set is quite tough as there are many low pop cards, case in point the 2005 Studio is a pop 2.

Jason, it was great meeting you and hopefully we'll see each other again next year in Chicago.

That Mantle looks awfully nice in that PSA holder. Congrats!!

What grade on the 56 Mantle?
  • Stone193Stone193 Posts: 24,439 ✭✭✭✭✭
Congratulations on picking up the Maddux Studio Jason.

I was stationed at Ft Gordon, GA from 1990 to 93 and have quite an affection for the Braves - watched them on TV all the time - Maddux and Glavine were 2 of my favorite players.

Another congrats on your x-over of the Mantle. That's one of my big regrets - not picking up that card - mid grade - when I couldn't afforded it.

See you and others next year in Chicago.
    Mike
  • Congrats, great card. I too was at the Nationals and I couldnt believe the great selection of 52 Mantles. I am in the market for one but didnt want to make an impulse decision at the show and do my research first. Other than eBay (which i try to avoid) what is the best place to find a reputable seller for this card and others that are similar of high end?

My vote would be to go through Jeff Foy at Card Country who is on this board. For 1952 through 1975 he has the best inventory and selection, and as anyone on here will attest is great to deal with. You can see his inventory on his Collectors Focus page - believe he has 2 or 3 Mantle rookies along with pretty much each year of Mantle cards. I picked one up from him last year and was very pleased with it - PSA 3.

Thank you Matt! I won't be able to make the Charlotte show unfortunately, maybe next time!

Keith, the 56 Mantle is a PSA 3. You might recall the fellow board member bringing the nicely centered beauty to the show. image

Mike, that is about the time I began focusing on collecting Maddux. The Braves were a force to be reckoned with back then...not so much now. lol

I second the suggestion of Jeff at Card Country. His cards are no doubt the best for each grade and have eye appeal like no other.

Congrats on landing the pop 2 Maddux for your basic set. Cool sub. The OPC Mantle and Venz Maddux stick out to me. I'd love to see your Yaz RC. I have the same card in the same grade.
