For us that couldn't make it please post any pics, writeups, etc.....Seems its been light on National posts this year.....(and i don't have Facebook,,ugh)

How are the prices, whats moving, the crowd, the whole mood and atmosphere??? Auctions, group breaks and pics..

How are the price battles...are they getting the run-up prices by the Famed 10-30 guys or falling back to lower levels????

Seems to me prices are higher than e-Bay, with some wiggle room depending on dealer. I can't find anything I was looking for, and I thought for sure location would help me.
Good crowds today, much better than yesterday. Most dealers I talked to said they had really good days today, not so yesterday.
People are spending, which is always a good sign.
At times I feel tables across the show all have similar cards. Have to be over a hundred 1986-87 Jordan cards here, several 10s and every other grade. Mantles galore too.
PSA is getting hammered. Get in early so you don't wait in the long lines.
The case breaks are so annoying. The microphone is horrible, as are the announcers. Sometimes can't even pronounce the names of the players they pull. Not my cup of tea, but a lot of attention to case breaks to my surprise.
Lot's of newer shiny stuff. A lot of vintage. Something for everyone, which bodes well for the hobby.
As with most shows, some dealers are just rude. A lot have been friendly and outgoing.
Just some brief points, been a long day and tired. Going for dinner now, maybe I will have time for a more detailed write up later.

    One quick pricing example

    65 Namath 3, 3.5 and 4 at a single dealer
    Ask is $1350, $1450 and $2000 respectively

    I think the last 5 (?) Namath 4s have gone $1200-1300

This is what I mean when I say dealers are already pricing "the next leg up"

What's funny is same guy was complaining they had too much inventory - wonder why?

The way I look at it is that dealers have to cover the cost of the show. That price differential can either be on the front end when buying or raising the bar when pricing so that they cover expenses and make a profit. Now pricing them in the stratosphere is another story. I saw one guy price a 53T Mantle that had been graded Authentic as $12,500 for it. It looks NM, but I showed him where it may have been recolored. His response was "That is just the lighting. Also, there are some characters at the show, One customer asks if he had any 33 Goudeys, the dealers response is that he doesn't have any of that new stuff. lol (The dealer was primarily 1890s-1920s)

Bounce, I haven't had the opportunity to meet you yet. I think the unofficial meeting spot is 2 at BBCE so maybe tomorrow before dinner!

I'd guess the fees on eBay are just as high though....

As referenced, I havent heard of the "buying group" attending the National. Interesting that some think that....But thats what Im wondering, how long the dealers hold out for some of those prices (100k for a RC rook 8). Either way it should be a nice profit for the dealers.

it shouldn't be hard to spot the buying group. Just look for the 10-30 guys walking in a group, each with armloads of high grade rookie cards. Also, they are probably wearing monocles.

Keith - Couldn't think of a better way to introduce Ruth to your collection. The Gehrigs were off the charts when held in hand. It was great meeting you and talking cards/ NCAA hoops. Hope you enjoyed your last day in AC.

This is the first time ever here in AC. Had a couple of guys whose opinions I respect who said to submit it along with the 56 Mantle and 55 Koufax I picked up. Will post the Koufax photo when I gets home. Here is the 53 in question - just crossing fingers but I like the card no matter the grade.

The best way to spot the buying-group. First, identify the many high grade vintage cards sold for 3-6X VCP in the last year. Then, look who is "selling" those cards for 2-5X VCP from the last year. There you go.

As previously stated, posts and picts are slim this year. What surprises me is there is not one reference to the autograph lines are the many HOFer's that were there? No good stories or experiences? Did anyone not show up to sign? Were the crowds heavy and the lines organized well? Any feedback at all?
