Excuse me if I got the question wrong here, but the idea is why the 1882 GC designs survived into 1922 for $100 and $500 but not the others?
I think this is one of those case by case things like solving the four color map problem.
The tens didn't exist in 1882.
The twenties were redesigned at the encouragement of the bull moose, who also asked that the twenty gold coin be redesigned.
The fifites and 1000's picked up the FRN designs before the FRN's came out, but the two changed at different times.
No large 5k and 10k were issued after 1919.
