1908 Maundy set w/contemporary box

Bought this 1908 maundy set recently. It's nicely toned and despite the dark colour on the obverse the coins still show full underlying lustre. My favourite part though is the box, a contemporary satin lined leatherette thing that is charmingly inscribed on the inside lid.

"Mary 1908. A keepsake from your friend Bert. ARB."

Nice. Wasn't "Bertie" the nickname of Albert aka Edward VII?

Lovely set. I've always thought the contemporary boxes were neat, too, but this is the first time I've seen one with a personal inscription.

Since I'm into love tokens a lot these days, it occurs to me that what you've got there is a love token of sorts- without engraving any of the coins!

The set itself became a love token, thanks to the writing in the box.

That makes it all the more unique, literally.

Yes, I agree. If you're into love tokens LordM you might find this article I wrote a few month ago about some fairly unique love tokens interesting:

I've got a small collection of WW1 trench art pieces forming, myself.

Presently your page isn't loading for me. It's trying to, but the little wheel keeps spinning round and round and nothing is happening, despite two refresh attempts. I'll try again later, 'cause I'd like to read that.

It should work now. We've got one page that has gone viral on Facebook and we're getting about 20x the normal number of visitors.

I guess that's a good problem to have.

Ahh, there it is. I see it now. Off to read it...

Edit- "Bugler Louie". I like it!
