Don't know what they are, but they have the same coloring and appearance as some Danish East Indies fakes I encountered a few years ago (which were from Ceylon, off the coast of India).

After some research, I got the impression India was runner-up behind China for counterfeits. Some are sold to tourists as souvenirs. These could very well be legit, but check.

  • Looks like India Dump copper coins. If you search ebay for that, you will see several that look like yours especially the Bengal and Bombay presidency coins

They're real. I'm reasonably confident of that.

Now, I realize this vote of confidence will sound lame when I also mention that I do not know how to ID them either, but I've seen a fair number of similar ones, despite my inability to attribute them.

These have the right "look", is all I'm saying. Gut check, they look OK to me.

But I will of course defer to anyone with superior knowledge, here.

There is some good info on the Bengal and Bombay Presidency coins here, and lots of photos, except they are all silver or gold editions: http://coinindia.com/galleries-bombaypresidency.html
