The dreaded future value question Nolan vs michael

Ok I know some of you like these and some hate them but here goes.....
Let's say you have a so-so psa 8 Nolan RC you can pick up for $6,500 and a higher end psa 9 Jordan RC for the same $6,500. Which would you do thinking of future value in 5 years? 10 years?

These are my faves, can't wait!
  • Personally, I'd go with the Jordan in that scenario (higher end and he is was the best player of all time in his respective sport, not just position). Just my thoughts..

Jordan has more universal appeal. Ryan is a huge fan favorite, but every week kids talk about Jordan and what shoes they are going to buy.

I think the Ryan card is ugly. Any shared rookie card is ugly. The Jordan, investment potential aside, is a beautiful card.

There is no debate on which card is more pleasing to the eyes that is for sure

I would opt for the older more rare card. Give me the ryan.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Id definitely go with the high end Jordan. Nice for the grade are always in more demand

The value of the Ryan picked up speed only recently. Your question wasn't pertinent several weeks ago. There's no telling what kind of activity will push the card to any higher level. Or lower.

Jordan, on the other hand, has been on a steady climb for quite awhile and should remain stable. It all seems pretty logical. His rookie card shouldn't take a sudden tumble.

I wonder what would happen to either RC if one of them ended up doing something absolutely horrible. Imagine someone deciding to drop HUGE money on an investment, and then one of them pulls an OJ or something!

As for me, I don't know - I love both of them, but love baseball more so I might go with Ryan. I met him a while back, and wrote about it actually - he signed some customs and I gave him one as well! http://tanmanbaseballfan.com/2...t-him-got-6-autos.html

I think this one is easy, but I am admittedly a basketball guy. Jordan every day and twice on Sunday. At no point in the last 20 years has Ryan been more popular or relevant than Jordan and this will never change. Barring a criminal or otherwise egregious act I see no way Jordan's popularity fades in relative terms to Ryan's.

    Jordan.

his 1986 is the most ICONIC NBA Card of ALL TIME.

Known globally (and only getting bigger IMO) Jordan is on another level

Jordan is, by far, more popular but I'm surprised more wouldn't want the Ryan. There are 4x as many Jordan PSA 9s than Ryan PSA 8s. Would be curious how many other cards have a pop of 2400+ and carry the kind of value as the Jordan PSA 9? I also think Jordan's greatness is more approachable than Ryan's longevity and dominance... given the popularity and softness of the NBA now.

    Jordan all the way

The 86 fleer is not his rookie card. I would go with the rookie 84 Star Jordan.

The Ryan rookie is more rare but all those multi player rookie cards are butt ugly.

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

Ryan cards kind of scare me. If proof ever comes out of Ryan's steroid use the card will drop like a brick.

Popularity is a giant part of this hobby and a card's worth. Mantle prices vs Aaron/Mays comes to mind. Virtually everyone know who Jordan is........a lot of "non sports" people don't know who Ryan is.
    1970's Steelers, Vintage Indians
  • Both great cards, however I would always recommend buying the nicer for the grade card.
