Pre-70s Unopened

I love all the pics and discussion about unopened from the 70s and early 80s. Over the years, I have had a new found appreciation for unopened, which means I drool over some of your collections (Tim, Mike, etc.).

As a 60s raw collector, I do not see many posts on here with unopened 60s material. I will see individually slabbed packs occasionally posted on CU, or on the bay. Any of you have a nice 60s (or earlier) unopened collection you wish to share? I would love to spend this Friday ogling over your collections!

coinspacks - the image came out really small so I can't make out what it is. Can you detail?

I used to have a box of these (picked it up for like $10-12 on a poorly described auction listing), but sold it a couple years ago: 1968 Fleer Iron-Ons Doesn't look like the price point on those has moved at all.

I had a few dozen before I had to sell most of my collection, but here is one that I still have. It's the Mantle Series.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

There just aren't many complete wax boxes from the 50s and 60s left. Even in recent years when prices skyrocketed, I'm sure boxes were still be opened by big monied collectors who could afford to open them even as expensive as they are. In the 90s it was fairly common to see full boxes from the 60s at wax dealers' tables. I bought many of my 60s packs straight out of a full box. 50s complete boxes weren't very common even in the 90s outside the Al Rosen boxes ('54 and '55 Bowman, '55 Topps water logged).

There are 6 PSA 8 wax packs so I'd assume those wouldn't have the water stains or they're light enough that you can't detect them without seeing the cards inside. I'm sure a small percentage of the packs in some of the boxes stored off the ground were undamaged. The worst of the packs were thrown away as they had holes in them from silver fish that were living in the boxes.

I have picked up a few 1960's and 70's empty wax boxes, and I have been working on a run of 70's packs and racks. Will post photos of the racks and packs.

Back row left to right is (4) boxes of 1976 unopened, (2) boxes each of 1968, 1969, and 1970. Front row is 1972, 1974, and 1975.

FYI those six 8's are one cent packs, not five cent packs. I assume coinspacks was referring to a five cent pack. I have a five cent gai 5 pack that's not too bad, better than alot I have seen. The detailed breakdown of the psa pop report for packs for a specific year is often ambiguous for 1965 and earlier because some of the columns simply say "wax pack" without actually designating if it's a one cent or a five cent although I would assume if there's no designation it means it's a one cent because they usually designate when it's a five. That being said if my theory is correct it appears the only five cent 55 packs they've graded are as follows: one third series which is a 4, two unknown series which are both 5's and a first series which while they don't denote if it's a five cent pack it likely is since they assign a series to it and that one is also a 5. All four of those five cent packs likely have damage since they're all graded 4 and 5.

Awesome display and love the photo of all of the packs - people cannot appreciate how difficult that is to put together.

Awesome Collection! Curious as to why people put a collection in a safety deposit box? I would want to show it off. That is why they have insurance image

    Thanks.
I showed it off for years while I was building it. But I'd hate to lose it, and insurance will just pay you off- a few of those packs are so incredibly tough I doubt I'll see another again. Every year or so I bring them out for a day to share with friends, but for safety and especially so they don't fade in the light (wax packs and boxes are really prone to that, a friends collection faded badly in a few years) I feel more comfortable storing them at the bank.
Except for the '70's and 80's packs, those are in a box on the shelf image
