Sellers, do you offer a COA?

I know COAs outside PSA DNA/JSA/SGC/et cetera are essentially worthless, but I regularly have customers ask for them. It's a difficult sell to those uninformed about grading companies (and lets face it, the high majority of collectors/shoppers haven't heard of them). I've always said I will not offer COAs, but have recently caved. It basically just says that my opinion is that the item is real and there is a lifetime guarantee. Any sellers here offer them?

    Completely pointless.

LOL at them asking for this. I always got a kick out of sellers who made up their own COAs. Now that I think of it I want to make one.

"Word Is Bond" Certificate Of Authentication

The little piece of paper guarantees that this signature is 100% legit. Why?, because like word is bond..... image

Unless you are a known leader in the industry for the type of autographs that you are selling the COA is pointless and worthless, but if it will help close a sale why in the hell not.

Better to offer something in writing that has your guarantee spelled out with your contact information. When I used to do shows, I had my own business card with the details of my guarantee and my raw autos were sealed with a safety sticker. I also kept a detailed picture file with every auto I sold so if someone tried to pull a fast one, I knew.

Offering your own COA puts you in a position to look like a potential scammer in the eyes of many consumers.

I printed on the back of my business cards the COA basically saying it's my opinion that the auto is genuine and there is a lifetime guarantee. There's also a hologram with a serial number and can be used for inquiries. I'm saving images with the serial number on my computer. I figured with custom holograms about 100 for $15 why not get all fancy.

edit to add: maybe I should consider not advertising the COA and just including it because I don't want to give any perception to customers that I may be scamming. As a customer I have thought this myself. I'll have to give this more thought but thanks for all the insight thus far.

^^ Agreed. Anytime I seea COA that's not of the ones you mentioned, it makes me chuckle.
