COMC consignments

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience using COMC? Is the process relatively easy? I read some stuff on their website and from what I gather, you send in whatever cards you want to send. They scan them and load them up. When do you actually price them? After they load them up? Anyone had success using them? I have probably have hundreds of thousands of football cards to sort through and I would rather consign them rather than try to do it on my own. Any thoughts on COMC would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't used them, but I did notice they are getting a fair amount of negatives on ebay because they have not set up their ebay sales system to offer combined shipping like they do when you buy direct from the COMC site. People are being charged $4 per card for shipping. This is a problem they will need to fix.

I was navigating through their website after creating an account and I noticed you have the option to opt in or out of putting your cards on Ebay and maybe a few other sites (but they take 20% to do that), so I may not have the cards listed on Ebay as well as their website if this is the case in regards to shipping. I'm just trying to get an idea if anyone has used them with a great amount of success. I could organize my cards into lots and sell them myself on ebay, but I just don't have the time to sort through so many cards. I appreciate the information in regards to the shipping costs on Ebay. Definitely something to consider. $4 per card is a little excessive.

You along with nearly every other collector, dealer, and dumpster diver. Search for similar card listings, paying close attention to sold items, and look carefully at your cost to add yours to the mix. If there's a ton of the same stuff listed, or selling for next to nothing, then it would probably benefit you to lot stuff in a sensible manner and sell it yourself.

I imagine the 20% ebay and other sites deal simply puts $40 into your account on a $50 sale. I assume you will then "lose" another 20% on the $40, bringing what you get down to $32, if you elect to cash out as opposed to leaving it in your account to buy more cards.

Lots of info out there with different approaches as sellers. Some use it to sell cheaper cards then buy a single big card and gave it shipped to prevent cash out fee. You can take a smaller % and get gift cards to Blowout

Yeah, I know that it will be a lot of work to sort through all the cards, but I'm going to try to pick and choose the "rarer" insert cards of minor stars and insert cards of hall-of-fame players that I've accumulated over the years. Maybe a few autograph cards (of unknowns now). Then separate the hall-of-fame base cards and then keep all the commons separate. I probably should have done this while I was ripping 15 years ago. Lol I appreciate the tips in regards to the 20% fee. I guess there is a fee to cash out? 20%? I do have to be very selective sending cards in for consignment. Again, it's just the time element, but it could be worth a few dollars if I am smart about it! I'm just looking for a little extra money and as Byron suggested making a bigger single card purchase.

I like COMC and have been consigning cards for a few years. It is easy, you send them your cards, they scan and upload them, then you set the prices. Cashing out is -20%, but for cards that would still be sitting a box, to me it's worth it. I've had over $6K in sales as a casual seller. I choose to not have my cards on Amazon or ebay as I like to price my cards on the lower end just to move them. I allow for offers, but most of the time my cards sell for asking. It has worked well for me so far.

Matt, Thanks for the information. I'm looking to do what you're doing as a casual seller. Any specific types of cards that you send in that seem to do well? Inserts, autos, rookies? I'm going to do some research myself, but if you're cards don't sell, how long does COMC hold them? Is it a certain charge per 90 days? How many have you sent in do you think? No rush to answer. Whenever you get a chance. Thanks again.

I've done most of my sales with older stuff, but newer stuff sells too. Older HOF players 60's, '70's have been good for me. Vintage commons do ok if they're in good shape. Do some research and you'll see what to send in and how to price them. For example, if you're sending in a card where there is 100 cards listed and 20 of them are .75 or lower, they may take forever to sell (or may never sell). But, in some cases there could be less than 5 cards listed, send those in and price yours lower than the others. It takes some time to research, but once you set it up it's low maintenance. COMC will hold them forever, but you pay storage fees after 3 months, I believe. Anything priced .75 or lower does not have storage fees, otherwise it's .01 per card per month. I've sold 2200 cards and currently have about 1200 cards there. My mentality is that I want these gone, I keep the prices low to move them. I have no problem selling to "big"sellers knowing that they are just raising the prices, I want to keep the sales coming in.

I appreciate you taking the time to give me some more information. Most of my stuff is football from the 1980s (commons, minor stars, HOF players). Most of the good stuff I sent into PSA for grading and have been selling graded cards for quite a while slowly but it moves every now and then. I ripped open up stuff until about 2003. Mostly football chrome, so I have all kinds of inserts lying around in different boxes everywhere. Lol I think I'm like you, where I just want to move the stuff, so I'll be pricing it right at the low points. I'll try to see what isn't listed first and send that in or if there are only a few listings, I'll take a chance with those. Again, it's the time element of looking through listings, seeing what is selling and for how much, etc, etc. But you've given me hope that it can be done! How do they pay you when you cash out? They take 20% from you for cashing out, right? When you first send in stuff, it's usually 25 cents a card for the cheaper stuff? That gets charged when you first load the stuff in? Sorry for the questions again, but they just come out of nowhere as I type. Lol Take your time and hope you're having a nice evening!

I have consigned for 4 years now and it's easy as could be. They've added features like showing the lowest price and histories. I have no issues.

Wow. Thanks for the post as well! I'll have to read that a few times! Appreciate yourself and Matt helping me. I'll start working on this before football season starts. Get some cards sent in by then!
