Just out of pure curiosity, how much did the last genuine 86 fleer basketball unopened box you guys have seen sell for?

Like $100,000?

Stuff like this just absolutely fascinates me

    Are there even any around?
  • lseeconlseecon Posts: 318 ✭✭
They are around. Perhaps some folks will show their 1986 wax boxes. Always a nice thing to see.
  • WTH? BBCE just had one for $40,000? Since $100K is thrown around, I actually seen one sell for $800K.

The last documented sale of one was held by L Ness Auction House. When the hammer came down it had sold for including buyer's fee exactly tree fiddy.

In terms of value for this particular issue, there is also a huge difference between a 36-pack box and an original wax box. I believe a 36-pack box was sold by PWCC not long ago.

check out the front page of bbce....that one was updated about 2 months ago

...and then pwcc sold theirs about the same time---in May also.....

....sold for high 30's ...didnt quite hit 40k...d/t it being a frankenbox, I'm almost positive

i recall this bc i was gonna buy both....yeah right...buy both or have a car (or two) to drive to work.

The PWCC box was mine. IMO, if it was a Wax Box, it would have fetched $60k.

  • I think a non hand collated wax box would get 75-80k via pwcc given jordan cards in that year have doubled in last two-three months

I'll wager Steve will have it at National. His asking price will be current market.

Surprised, there havent been more of these for sale on Ebay or elsewhere this summer. Sales have been few and far between. Looks like single graded packs are commanding well over $1,000 per pack now. Be interesting to see how many boxes are for sale at the National and what are the prices. Hopefully, we will get some good reports on all unopened offerings by those attending the National this year.

I remember a few years ago there was a video of bbce that bought a box for 14k. I think the vid is still up on YouTube.
  • Looks like we are about to find out what these are valued. This is not a hand collated box, it even has a letter from Steve.

  • Arsenal83Arsenal83 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭
I'll say $65,000 before the juice.
  • Going with $72,184.09

Collect Auctions has one for sale with a letter from Steve stating that in his opinion the box is in its original form.
Bidding at $32,786 Auction ends August 11th
$65,000 seems reasonable but who knows these days
Interested in 60's and 70's psa and raw star and hof cards
  • Great find BobH. Ive never heard of collect auctions. They have a ton of awesome wax for sale in that auction. 1972 topps basketball would be an awesome one to have too.

First one looks ok. Second one looks like Chocolate Thunder jammed it through a rim at the Spectrum.

How much is a psa 10 Jordan selling for? Wouldn't a buyer be better off buying one or maybe two 10's instead of an unopened box??

Did you see the box from Michigan was just ended because it was "lost or broken". Check out the 2nd link above from Boogielabs88

Theoretically yes, but you could miss out on 3-4 jordans, 3-4 dominiques, 3-4 jordan stickers, 3-4 jabbar stickers, 3-4 johnny moores, etc etc etc

Not to mention the box is worth so much kept sealed more so than opened 90% of the time, but with this box it is inevitable it will continue to grow. I wouldn't pay as much as they would sell for, but I don't see it crazy being sold for that price either because of the possibilities inside and the lack of them out there anymore. As of now evem 36 graded packs would go for roughly 40k being its 1k+ per graded pack and 1.5k-3k for a jordan sticker one.

Collect Auction is auctioning an 86 basketball box too. It looks like it may be from the same source as the Mile High box. It has the same letter from BBCE. Bidding is at $35,286.

Looks like BBCE has a box for sale at the National for $75,000. I assume it must be an original with the correct collation similar to the ones in the collect auction and mile high.
Be interesting to see if it sells at that price. Thats about $2k a pack.

I agree. Everyone keeps overlooking the other great cards in this set.
