Forgeries from an eBay seller, best route to take?

A seller on eBay has a lot of autos from a deceased author that I collect and sell regularly. I was suspicious from the start as they didn't look genuine to me based on the pictures in the listings.

I paid for PSA's quick opinion service on one of his listings, but they couldn't give me an answer and refunded my purchase.

So, I contacted him, asking if he could do a deal on a lot of 10.

My thinking behind this was that I can examine them in person, make a better call on authenticity, and will have Paypal buyer protection to cover me in the event that I am correct.

Surprisingly, he says he can do a deal on a lot of 25 but that he needs time to go through his boxes and find 25 good ones for me. Later that evening he sent me a low quality picture of what he "found" and said the pictures are bad because the sun went down.

Anyways, I pay him ($500) and received the autos yesterday and they are, absolutely, 100% forgeries. Shaky pen, breaks, and under a loupe and fluorescent light I can see the tracing of the signature beneath the marker.

Of course I am going the Paypal route, and I've already contacted eBay (which doesn't care). Is there another agency I can contact to investigate this guy? He's selling a ton of high dollar fakes on eBay and I'd really like to put a stop to it if I can.

Thanks in advance.

Good job to try and take the bull by the horns. I just wish others cared about fraud like true and hoenst collectors do. I hope you find some answers.

I can't speak for most of what that seller has, but their fiction author signatures look good.

Chaoticdopey gets items from garage sales and has been forging them for years. They are always used books, dirty used sporting equipment and dirty records. Go take a look at his completed auctions

I googled him just now and it seems that you're right!

Yes he is terrible! Will often take google images of a celebrity at a book signing and take a picture of the Google image next to his forgeries so the buyer thinks he actually took that photo with his personal cell phone.
  • someone not involved in the transaction should contact the seller and get their side of the story.

If a person is publicly outed and their reputation is being questioned then by all means there is nothing wrong with getting their side of the issue.

Had a good long talk with an eBay supervisor today. While they said they cannot share any info with me about his account, all of his listings have been removed!

This action by Ebay in and of itself speaks volumes.
