Hello all,
I have looked around and can't find too much about this grading company. Does anyone have more details about Compugrade?
By the way, I know of the Compugrade that graded coins. Is this potentially the same company or is it something completely different?
Thank you!

Also, @steel75 I'm not sure how the question answers itself. I'm looking for the history behind a grading company. I know for coins there are a few people that are dedicated to recording the history of the various services. I wanted to know if cards had the same kind of people.
The coin version of Compugrade actually attempted to grade using computers. There is a lot of interesting history behind that and it even involves the company in charge of this forum.
So in the world of sports cards, are there any people that try to collect an example of all the holders?.
I think most people are telling you that you would be wasting your money if you paid more than the raw value of that card.
I have never heard of anyone collecting a card in all the different holders.
PSA ... SCG ... BVG ... possibly early GAI ... other than these I believe most would agree that the holder adds nothing to the value.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Doug, I think you may be forgetting the recently discovered SCE Wagner.

If you have to ask "has anybody heard of them", or I can't find out anything about them, then as far as cards go.......it's CRAP

In the coin hobby, there are many who try to get the 'set' (if you will) of all grading companies without regard to their legitimacy within the hobby. Its just another way to collect. Apparently U1chicago is experiencing some backlash because card guys don't collect this way. In time you just might though. Remember back when third party grading was just this weird thing that only the coin guys did?? You may come around.....give it time
No one and I mean no one will collect off brand grading cards who has a grain of card collecting sense. Now this can be the case for someone collecting the Big 3 (PSA, SGC, and Beckett). I repeat no one wants cards in those off brand Dollar General slabs.

+1......this isn't coin collecting, sorry

PSA has been grading cards for over 25 years, almost as long as PCGS has been grading coins.
Sure, there are all kinds of ways to collect, but I wouldn't invest anything more than a novelty amount on an item holdered by a grading company with no reputation or standing in the hobby.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Anyways, thanks to everyone for the information!
Have a great weekend!
terrific! By the way, PCGS was not the 'pioneer' of 3rd party grading

3rd party grading for coins - Discussion began as early as 1968 (I can site CoinWorld articles if you wish).....Due to funding delays the initial panel of experts wasn't assembled until 1976....Even with this delay the coin industry still beat 3rd party grading for sportscards by a full decade
You are missing my point. I am not trying to assert that third party grading of coins did not predate third party grading of cards (it did not), but that a) third party grading of cards has been around for decades now and b) no serious collector would bother purchasing a card with any kind of premium holdered by a company with no reputation or standing in the industry.

fair enough....for the record, both hobbies are enjoyable and at different times I have been involved with and have enjoyed both.....plus, you are bound to have good taste (grote) from your sig line I can see you are a copper man
Thanks, savoy. I agree with that and also enjoy collecting both cards and coins, too, with a focus on early American large cents in lower grade.

+1...............No serious sportscard collector would consider what the OP brought up.......It's just a fact and it's not really open to debate.
+ a million.
