Who is buying up all of the Bonds PSA 10 RCs?

I know the Tiffany Bonds PSA 10 has went along with the spike, but I also notice that his lesser RCs are starting to increase as well. Also it seems like the demand has also picked up, I've been watching the 4SC site and the Fleer Glossy, Topps Traded, and Donruss Rookies are selling very quickly. I see that they finally raised the prices on them this week.

I started researching Bonds RCs since I've been priced out of the vintage RCs I've been chasing. I know that PWCC set a new recent high on the 87 Fleer Glossy at $160. I see most listed in the $140-$150 range. With the Tiffany PSA 10 at around $800 with a pop 326, it does seem like the Fleer Glossy should be at least $200 with a pop of 436.

Donruss Opening Day error is underpriced. Who cares if the card pictures someone else? image

The opening day error is quite scarce. Can you imagine what bonds rookies would sell for if not for his PED use? I'm sure they would be astronomical.

I sold my glossy last year, then just purchased the glossy 3 weeks ago at a good price. I didn't realize they have shot up to $150. I think Bonds is one of the greatest hitters of all time regardless of PED use or not.

Considering how great he was(7 MVP's) his cards are a bargain.

It looks like the 1987 Fleer Glossy and 1986 Topps Traded are now sold out at 4SC. I wonder if they will post next week with higher prices. They already raised them once across the board in the past two weeks.

I did some pop math and found some interesting factoids:

    PSA 10
    1986 Topps Traded 3729/42227 8.8%
    1986 Fleer Update 1040/18267 5.7%
    1986 Donruss 1152/10987 10.5%
    1986 Topps Tiffany 325/2029 16%

    1987 Topps 1015/11413 8.9%
    1987 Fleer 1074/23090 4.7%
    1987 Donruss 1155/22761 5.1%
    1987 Leaf 69/1201 5.7%
    1987 Fleer Glossy 436/6736 6.5%
    1987 Tiffany 157/2474 6.3%

First I am surprised there are less 1987 Topps Bonds PSA 10s than the main 1986 and 1987 Bonds. The 1987 Topps sells for the least among the main rookies, I guess the thousands of cases sitting on the sidelines keeps prices down.

The disparity between the 1987 Fleer and Donruss doesn't seem warranted. The Fleer typically sells for more than twice the Donruss. I've seen plenty of boxes of each available, however I've seen more 1987 Donurss cases than Fleer.

Among the Glossy/Tiffany cards, again I think the Fleer Glossy is undervalued compared to the Topps Traded Tiffany. I can see it starting to make a slow climb to $200-$250, especially if Bonds clears 55% in the next HOF vote. The 1987 Tiffany and 1987 Fleer Glossy Bonds seems to track each other in value as well.

Again in this market, you need to start getting creative to keep yourself engaged. I know Bonds has a lot of issues, but time does heal all wounds and maybe history will change its perspective on that era.

I have a glossy fleer nine and a tiffany psa 8 but I just cannot believe some of the prices for the tiffany ten and glossy. I just do not believe that bonds will make the hall. to many sportswriters are totally against steroid players. bonds would probably been a 500 home run and 2500 hit player even without steroids. I always liked the way bonds played early in his career but not so much in his last years.

Next years HOF vote will be very telling. Bonds will need around a 10 point jump to put him on track. The culling of the herd got Bonds 8 points last year. With a lot of the leading baseball writers - with very big platforms like ESPN, CBS, and Fox - voting for Bonds and an average newcomer class next year, 2017 is the best time to see if Bonds' can surge.

I think one problem with this is if you let Bonds in, then you have to consider Clemens, McGwire, Palmiero, etc...it opens the door to something that can be a bit of a problem for the HOF. Who to exclude and not to exclude from the PED years.

Thanks. Based on the market, I'll set the over/under at $750.00. Despite its rarity, I'm not sure how much demand there is for OPC.

It looks like all of the sub-$150 1987 Fleer Glossy Bonds PSA 10 have sold. The remaining BINs are $200+. PWCC has a so-so PSA 10 ending in a couple of days, it will be interesting to see if this one breaks $200.

This one looks easy... Clemens gets in and the others won't. They've already started deciding who gets in and who doesnt and Piazza is already in so Bonds and Clemens are likely next.

I wanted to join on the fun and do an "I told you so" post :o

It looks like the Bonds Bulls are winning right now. I see that the 1987 Fleer Glossy PSA 10 just crossed the $200 mark on the last two sales.

The one that shocks me is the 1986 Topps Traded PSA 10. It looks like it may cross $100 consistently. The pop on that card is astronomical compared to the rest.

I do wonder if the Tiffany is driving the value of the base 1986 Topps Traded since they look alike.

It looks like the 1987 Topps Bonds is moving to the $40 range, which should make unopened 1987 Topps a little more interesting.

I don't think the buying group is driving this, they already bought their position. B)

  • Funny I sold mine because there was a million PSA 10's, and sets were around $5-7 each. I never thought that card was going anywhere, and I'd be able to pick up another copy with a little better centering later on.

Too funny Astrodome. I actually used my friends collection of 88 topps as kindling in a fire. He came over for some beers and we were firing them into the fire pit. I explained to him that I didn't expect a pick up in the mid grade 88 topps market any time soon, lol.
