1976 Topps Vending box rip!

So I ripped a 1976 Topps baseball vending box this glorious July 4th weekend. You're going to have to take my word for it - in mu haste I did not take a picture of the full box. Thought the results were promising. I have scanned the highlights of the rip so I can scrutinize them better. Thought I would share as I go along.

If those corners are sharp on the Bench?

You've got a great card there!

Wish the Aaron were better centered.

That Bench card is one of my favorites from the 1970's and that looks like a promising 9. Hope you get a Brett or 2!

Chris ... some pretty sweet cards so far. Hope you hit some more stars in the same condition. Can't wait to see the others. Good luck.

Nice Rice. How's the reverse on the Bench?

Ya gotta love the Rivers card.

That was just before he went to the Yanks.

In 1978 I was at Yank Stadium in the bleachers.

A guy kicked over this lady's beer.

She said hey *&^&! You go buy me another beer!

The guys told her to F Off!

I swear, she jumped him! Pulled off her shoe and started beating him with it.

The shoe wound up in center field - it was between innings.

Rivers nonchalantly scooped up the shoe and tossed it back without even looking!

    They were both arrested.

Are the corners really sharp in person?

You and Phillip seem to have such good luck ripping 70s product, you give all of us regular and part-time rippers hope.

Thrilled to see you hitting some nice results on this break.

I've got a few 80 vendors I'm wanting to break, but can't for the life of me figure out how they grade those cards. So I've been holding out. One of these days...

    Continued luck Chris!

Thanks! Trust me, they grade those 1980 cards hard. But still rip 'em!

Too bad on the centering with the Eck tho.

The color on the Borgmann is amazing. Unfortunately it's under $50.00 in a "10" and believe it or not less than the grading fee in a "9". Let's hope you find some big buck cards!

Edited to add: How's that Crawford look up close? Looks real nice from here ... now that card in a "10" is $200.00+.

Chris - Awesome rip and great looking cards - much better than normal on centering. Looks like you got a great box. Funny thing was just last night I was telling Keith Jr about the Bevaqua bubble gum blowing card! Any extras that you move you know where to find us - especially the Bench image
  • Centering from that vending box is fantastic it seems. The one and only 76 vending box I popped was all over the place. Sent the best 100 cards in with hopes of many 10's and this is what the grader did:

Great post and story Mike!!! You certainly paint a very vivid picture!! If nobody else on here appreciated it or found it funny, I certainly did!!

Great cards too Chris!! 76 is probably my favorite set, the second year I bought packs although I did open a 75 rack a few weeks ago in your honor!!

Did you get a Johnny Briggs #373 that was centered. One of the toughest ones to find centered.
  • NikklosNikklos Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭
    Nope no good Briggs.

I have also opened two of these 1976 vending boxes this year and gotten zero Ryans.

Just checked the July specials and nothing too appetizing there. The bulk of these will have to wait for a cheap special but I guess more than a few are worth an $8 gamble.

Thanks for sharing...best of luck with the grades!
  • Beautiful cards. actually the issue with Johnny Briggs being tough is the frequent PD that comes on the card. Good luck on your subs
  • NikklosNikklos Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭
Once again, guys, thanks so much for the well wishes. I'm whittling this group down to 20 cards appropriate for an $8 special. Not to take anything away from some of the other cards, but I can't see anything holding Billy Williams back.
