Hello everyone, I'll state straight off I'm a coin guy and you can see I've been with CU for a while doing the coin thing and enjoying it. (plenty of references).
So I have a new renter that's going through hard times. He's not a card guy either but his brother was and my renter got the collection upon the passing of his bother. I've known of the collection for a few months and even sold a few graded ones on eBay for him. Was hoping it would inspire him to put the effort into selling some to help him through his hard times.
Four months later and he said $100 and it's all yours. So now I'm sitting on 10 boxes (16'' long) of cards from the 70's through mid 90's. There's Basketball, football, baseball and even one with NASCAR. All clean and in good shape. Saw plenty of Jordan cards along with other famous people. Hoping that's a good thing.
Here's the questions.
Should I just sit on these awhile? or is the current state of the market in a sellers market?
How do people usually organize these? At the moment it's sport, brand, year.
Where do I find values? These are all raw btw. So far eBay works but I've got cards not listed on ebay.
Where is the cutoff value for having a card graded (in general)
Best shipping practice for single or group. Do I have to buy 1000's of plastic sleeves? Regular envelope first class good up to a point? Or never?
So that's a start. Wish I knew cards like I do coins. I'd have this group maxed out in short order. But no, I'm the dear in the headlights at the moment.
Advice welcome, thanks,
John

If you enjoyed flipping coins, one of the best things about COMC is that since it is a warehouse, if you start buying cards on site, you don't have to take delivery, you can immediately reprice them. When they sell, that money goes back into your account. I make enough off of flips to send in thousands of cards a year and buy some cards for my own collection basically free.
I may be getting with you about the ins and outs of that.
Doug
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Your 'My Ebay' link actually just links to ebay. Ebay itself is not yours to claim unless rules have changed around here. If they have, then I claim Kate Upton's lingerie drawer, along with the place Jack in the Box Tacos are made.

It seems it took a year to put it all into a list of some sort. Here it is in Open Office spread sheet. It came to 14 sheets (tabs at the bottom) and each sheet fills a box. So finding a card shouldn't be a big job. Any suggestions on how to move these without taking to much of a hit? I've got time so small groups on ebay maybe? I don't know, I'm a coin guy.
Thanks,
John
Hello John,
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there isn't much value to what you listed. In coin terms, you bought a bunch of random rolls of modern circulated Lincoln Cents. I would suggest donating them to a local charity as the total value is less then $10.
I can't make a judgement call without some pics. You could be sitting on a gold mine there or garbage.
How large is your recycling can at home?
LOL, until now I thought COMC was mostly a comic book sight. Now I get it. Check Out My Cards. I've learned something new today.
Kind of thought they were just cards. Into the back of the closet they go to be used by another generation. Thanks everyone. I'll put then next to the ammo boxes of cent rolls from the 30's on. Same thing in a way. To valuable to toss and not valuable enough to sell. Time wise that is.
