Please describe, in depth, 'your first time'. (ebay related you pervs)

Discovered EBAY back in 2001. A week later I had 6 - 10 boxes arriving each day for two weeks or so. I freaked on this newfound glorious ebay thing. Bought me up ALL the Starting Lineup Canseco's I could find, without regard for what the MOC packaging or other care of condition, I just bought it. Now, anything I bought on ebay the first year of having an account is basically junk.



Any similar experiences when discovery Ebay ? I'd bet everyone here actually has a similar or familiar story.

My addiction began with 5 1984 Topps Marino Rookies for $8 each . What a glorious this "ebay" was as I'm from Little Rock and we had only 1 shop and it sucked.

'62 Topps Drysdale All-Star. Graded PSA 8. I was like "Really? So I just need to sit here on my lazy cans and make money?"

Between the late 90's to mid-2000's, long before I had considered graded and unopened, I was buying every oddball and insert set made from the 80's and 90's - Renatta Gallasso Sets, Drakes, Denny's, Fleer Box Sets, Topps Glossy All Star Sets.....oh the list of trinkets is long.



Glad I have them in my collection but also glad to have graduated to upgrades to my set run. Ebay has been instrumental in getting close to finishing the 67-present run with the bulk of that occuring in the past 10 years.



As for selling, I began selling via the Internet in 1993 via newsgroups and my college email address. Ebay not only helped me track down great collection items but also formalized the sellers market never imagined in the early 90's.....think about it, 10 years prior to Ebay coming around, dealers were paying a monthly premium to join a bulletin board system via modem & monitor to buy/sell and stock their stores. The guy I worked for would camp out in the back office watching for deals to stock his store - poof - hello Ebay to all buyers and sellers = brilliant!

I joined in September, 2001, right after 9/11 ironically. I bought a 1987 Fleer Update Set for $4. I was hooked.

I joined eBay in 2001. My first transaction was a purchase of the Al Stewart album "Modern Times" on CD. Classic album from a great and often overlooked singer-songwriter.

I joined in 1998, albeit begrudgingly. Someone had told me about ebay and I was like - I don't need someone to help me sell my things. But I decided it was better than running auctions through AOL and having like 50 people on my auction list. The first thing I sold was a lot of 100 Randy Johnson rookies - only got $10 for them. Luckliy, it has gotten much better since then.

Don't remember first ebay purchase, but I remember buying tons of psa cards from collectors universe .99 auctions in 1997 and 1998. Does anyone know when those CU auctions stopped? I used to get big catalogs that were full color. Loved those

Bought a 1967 Steve Carlton for $4 in an auction. Got bored of it in 2 weeks (as I do)
sold it on ebay for $20 with a much better pic.... and so it began.

I think I joined in around 2009 ish, and bought a 93 Finest Michael Jordan BGS 9.5 for like $80. It was one of only two being sold on ebay (at that time) and the other guy wanted over $100 for his so I got a REALLY good deal lol. If only I would have known that if I was patient and waited, I could have gotten one for their actual value (around 30-40 dollars). About a $40 lesson that has played an important role in my ebay buying.

I joined eBay in 2003 and the first transaction was to the Toppsvault and I bought a piece of pen and ink Topps comic art.

I discovered eBay in early 1999. One of the first items I sold was a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook that I got Mantle to sign at a show back in 1986 across from LAX. I used to get off the wall items for players to sign just to see their reactions as I don't collect autographs and I never really liked that people had to pay for their signatures. Anyway, I got about 86.00 for the book and now it's my lifeline of sorts to get the Heritage cards I need for my sets.

I joined eBay in January of 1999 and my first purchase was, if I recall, the Don Mattingly retirement SLU. Before that I was tearing it up on Teletrade. I used to drive my wife nuts jumping on the phone every 10 minutes to check on the status of an auction I was following. I clearly recall being in a casino in Biloxi, Mississippi using their pay phones to buy a 1955 Bowman Mantle.

I joined in 1999 and used Yahoo auctions too. I remember not being impressed with it probably due to fewer pictures. I looked up Byron Scott and found he had stuff there and kept looking.

Joined Ebay in 1996. First item I sold was an autographed Wilt Chamberlain matchbox from his Boca Raton restaurant which I got in person. No COA, just a crappy photo and my word. Sold for $75. First item I purchased, no idea. Probably a Jordan card.

My dad discovered Ebay before I did. He's a gun/knife nut and he was buying that kind of stuff.

One day in late 1997, I had just returned from Wal-Mart; having purchased all of their Bowman Chrome packs at $3 apiece. He had it pulled up and I told him to search for 1997 Bowman Chrome.....and BAM!!! I was instantly hooked.

Large lot of Shawn Green Stadium Dome RC's and 1994 Topps Traded Konerko's on eBay in Feb 1999. Like Yankeesman I dabbled a little on Teletrade in the 90's. I remember getting a Drexler Star RC that way. Good times.

My first purchase was a lot of 539 1975 Topps Baseball from battleship104 July 2009. $61 plus $10.94 shipping (I've saved every PayPal "you sent a payment" email!) Lost my job and had a lot of time on my hands. Spent a lot of my severance on anything baseball I liked before settling in on Heritage.



I actually sold a few mid 80's rookies through a friend in the late 90's
