Pack wars

Thinking about ripping an 83 Donruss box this morning and remembering the days of pack wars, when my buddies and I would buy a box or two, split them up, and start the battle. Rules as I recall them were pretty simple. Highest value card (as per the most recent Beckett) won every card in that round, with a tie carrying the cards over. Was always fun with 85 Topps when both packs had a Gooden, causing a tie, and the best card in the next 2 packs was a minor star, which won both Goodens - Good times indeed! Maybe a fun evening event at the National this year? I'd be in for a box of 81 Topps!
Go Dodgers!

When we did pack wars we always let the highest card number win.

Highest card number wins sounds like a great way to go!
    Go Dodgers!
  • We used to add up HR, RBI and BA from our best player and the high won the pack. After they started inserts, they were not part of the war. Gwynn and Boggs were awesome!

Yeah, we always did it with the stats on the cards. Pack with most homeruns, wins, hits rbi etc. man that was fun.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Did anyone take their cards to school and play the toss them from 30 feet and whichever lands closes to the wall gets both (or however many cards were involved that round) cards? Proudest day of grade 6 for me was the day I forgot my hockey cards. I borrowed a card from some girl (took a a lot of whining and begging), won my first game and ended the day with more than 40 (beat to snot) cards.

We used to do pack wars but decided before we opened the pack, what stat we would use to win the contents of all packs opened for that round.

We did this about 10 years ago with 1986 Topps Football packs. We decided ahead of time that winner would be the heaviest guy.

So who were people cheering for......William "The Refrigerator" Perry.

Would you believe I actually lost a Rice rookie to a guy that opened at Perry?

That's why they call it gambling. Unbelievably fun way to do it.....you can win the best cards (highest value) with a common (or certainly less valuable) card.

Back in the day we would have a 36 count box. 4 of us would divide up so each had 9 packs. High # won each hand of all the cards including all inserts pulled within that hand. And if there was an oversized card, which in one instance was in 94 Donruss baseball, whoever had the largest pile of cards got that one too. Was a good way to move wax boxes if you were the supplyier.
